Duer Sharp is resigning as commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), sources close to the situation told HBCU Sports on Wednesday.
According to sources, Sharp learned that his current contract, which runs through July 2018, would not be renewed by the SWAC Council of Presidents.
The conference presidents are scheduled to meet in Houston Thursday during the SWAC’s annual winter meetings; sources tell HBCU Sports.
Sources indicated the presidents would discuss whether to allow Sharp to work out the remaining months on his contract as the commissioner or to buy him out and remove him from the position as soon as possible.
Sharp joined the SWAC as assistant commissioner in Jan. 2004 and was named associate commissioner in June 2005. He was promoted to commissioner in Jan. 2008.
This is the best news the SWAC could have ever gotten. God is good
