The Grambling State football team, fresh off winning the 2016 Celebration Bowl and a mythical HBCU national football championship, was welcomed by some enthusiastic fans braving chilly weather conditions on the Grambling campus Sunday night.
Fans were lined up on the streets of the Grambling campus as the team buses drove by accompanied with police car and fire truck sirens.
“Our fans have won so many games for us this year. There were times when we where down all year long and they brought us back to life,” Grambling head coach Broderick Fobbs said. “We were glad to come home to this huge, huge, huge cold and warm welcome. We’re pleased. We really are.”
The HBCU national championship is Grambling’s first since 2008. But Fobbs says it will not be the last.
“This is the first in a long time, but it is the first of many to come, I can tell you that.”
