Running back George Myers, Jr. (Benedict) was selected as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Offensive Player of the Week and defensive back Kentron James (Fort Valley) was named Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday.

Punter Dalton Hall (Tuskegee) earned the Special Teams Player of the Week honor and safety Robert Cummings (Benedict) was tabbed Newcomer of the Week.

Myers, a 5’6 senior from Hephzibah, Ga. broke Benedict’s modern-era record for rushing yards in a game with 235 yards on 13 carries in a 42-6 win over Central State. Myers recorded a 55-yard touchdown in the third quarter and averaged 18.1 yards per carry. He also had 33 yards on kick returns for 266 all-purpose yards. [easyazon_infoblock align=”right” cart=”y” identifier=”B00GP0AKVI” locale=”US” tag=”hbcusports-20″]

In the 37-31 triple overtime defeat of Clark Atlanta, James finished with a game-high 16 tackles including 13 solo stops for Fort Valley State. The 5’10 sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla. recorded three tackles for loss resulting in nine yards. James also recovered a fumble and recorded a pass breakup.

Hall made his first two field goal attempts of the year on Saturday night and they proved to be the difference in the 5th Quarter Classic where Tuskegee defeated Florida A&M 20-17. The sophomore from Hartsville, S.C. hit a 32-yard field goal and a 31-yard field goal in the opening quarter that gave Tuskegee a 6-0 lead. Hall also added a pair of extra points late, including the final one on the game-winning touchdown that put the lead at three.

Cummings, a 6’0 freshman safety from Macon, Ga. had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown against Central State. Cummings also finished with seven tackles and two pass breakups.
