TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The defending HSRN HBCU Division II national champion Tuskegee University Golden Tigers opened camp Thursday afternoon with several returning players mixed in with newcomers.
“Today was an organizational day,” Tuskegee head coach Willie Slater said. “It was a matter of getting guys in the right spot. I like what I see so far even though it is just the first day. It makes me smile when you look out and see the guys we have dressed out this week.” [lasso align=”right” cart=”y” identifier=”B01IY6LOU6″ locale=”US” tag=”hbcusports-20″ ref=”amzn-tuskegee-golden-tigers-s3-light-weight-ladies-cardigan-s-crimson-red” type=”single” id=”72088″ link_id=”4877″]
Tuskegee welcomed in a full roster this fall to gear up for the season. On the opening day of camp, the Golden Tigers battled the elements with afternoon showers throughout. The team went through conditioning drills throughout, with individual group work mixed in.
The Golden Tigers came together for the final 45 minutes to work on team situations and special teams.
“We were just making sure everyone was on the same page offensively,” Slater said. “Defensively, we just wanted to make sure they know where to line up and what to call themselves.”
Tuskegee will continue fall camp until the beginning of school on August 18, gearing up for the season opener on the road at Clark Atlanta. Kick off time for the season opener is 7 pm (eastern) and the game will be carried on the American Sports Network.
