New Orleans – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference office announced today the GCAC Volleyball Players of the Week for the third week of the 2015 season. Taylor Reuther of Xavier University was voted the Attacker of the Week, Dillard University libero Demetria Horton was picked as Defender of the Week and Xavier’s Franziska Pirkl was selected as conference Setter of the Week.
GCAC Attacker of the Week: Taylor Reuther, Xavier (SR, OH, Metairie, La.)
Taylor Reuther, a three-time All-GCAC selection and 2012 GCAC Player of the Year produced her third double-double of the season in a 3-0 conference win over Talladega. Reuther had 10 kills and 11 digs against the Lady Tornadoes. The senior outside hitter has a school record 44 double-doubles in her career for the Gold Nuggets.
GCAC Defender of the Week: Demetria Horton, Dillard (JR, L/DS, Grand Prairie, Texas)
Demetria Horton battled through injury to help lead the Lady Bleu Devils to their first win of the season by collecting a season-high 25 digs in a 3-1 victory over Centenary College. In four matches during the week Horton averaged 15.5 digs per contest. Her reception average for the week was .962.
GCAC Setter of the Week: Franziska Pirkl, Xavier (SR, S, Munich, Germany)
Franziska Pirkl wins her second Setter of the Week award this season by helping Xavier extending its winning streak against conference opponents to 61 matches, including 50 straight in the regular season. Pirkl, the GCAC leader in assists per set, had 36 total assists in wins over Talladega and Edward Waters. She added five kills and committed just two errors.
