NEW ORLEANS, La. – Texas Southern University hit its way to the 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball championship game Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers outhit Grambling State 15-8 en route to a 7-4 win.
They will face west division rival Southern Sunday.
Ryan Lazo led TSU with a game-high four hits.
He went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs and an RBI. Robert Pearson pitched 8.1 innings, striking out five to earn his fifth win of the year.
TSU held the Tigers scoreless through six innings while racking up six runs. Grambling State finally picked up steam in the seventh inning.
Dylan Spearman led off with a single through the left side.
It was followed by a single to center from Yariel Medina. They loaded the bases on a fielding error by Robert Garza.
Roger Diaz’s single to left field then scored Spearman and Medina came around to score on a muffed throw by the catcher.
Pearson and TSU’s defense then got the next two batters to strike and ground out, ending the inning.
Grambling would get a couple more across in the eighth and ninth, but Texas Southern would hold on for the win.
