The suspensions of two Southern women’s basketball players stemming from an in-game brawl Saturday against Texas Southern have been rescinded by the SWAC, the league announced Tuesday.
Southern senior guard Kendra Coleman and sophomore forward Cortnei Purnell have been reinstated after the SWAC reviewed video of the on-court fight.
Both Coleman and Purnell, who were originally among 15 players suspended, are eligible to play in Southern’s tournament game.
Southern has also been elevated to the No. 1 seed as a result of Texas Southern’s decision to withdraw from the tournament.
The Jaguars will face No. 8 seed Mississippi Valley State in the tournament quarterfinal round Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
It was great that the SWAC looked at the films and only punished the young ladies that were actually involved in the WWF match. However, S Beau should not be in the tournament anyway. From my view of the tapes, and being at the game, Southern started the whole thing. Seems like they should be tired of coming to Houston getting beat up….the way Alcorn took care of their football team in the SWAC championship.
I agree 100% they should not be allowed to play the started the fight and from the way the tape looks #30 and #23 seem to be involved the are just starters and southern knows they have no chance to win without them playing.
