JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State University improved to 2-1 overall with its 9-4 win over Tennessee-Martin Sunday afternoon. The Tigers put up five runs in the second inning to ensure the win. Alex Juday moved to 2-0 on the year after pitching a complete nine inning game giving up just three earned runs. Jevon Jacobs and Melvin Rodriguez led the Tigers offensively. Both finished with two hits and two RBI on the day. Jacobs also scored two runs.
HOUSTON, Texas – Texas Southern University (2-2) dominated Jarvis Christian School late in their game Sunday afternoon en route to a 13-8 home win. TSU trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth before their bats exploded in a seven run inning. Gerreck Jimenez went 3-for-5 from the plate with three RBI and two runs to lead the team. Other Tigers with multi-hit days were Horace Leblanc, Andre Moore, and Blake Hicks. Larry Romero picked up his first win of the season after going six innings and striking out five.
University of Louisiana-Monroe Tournament
University of Louisiana-Monroe def. GRAMBLING STATE, 7-3
MONROE, La. – Grambling State University battled tough with host University of Louisiana-Monroe, but could not keep up with their offensive production, falling 7-3 Sunday afternoon at the ULM Tournament. The teams were tied 2-2 heading into the third inning before ULM’s defense picked up and shut down the Tigers. Angel Peguero led with a team-best .750 batting average earning two RBI and one run. Andre Wilson struck out a game-high five batters in five innings of work, but received the loss.
McNeese State def. ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF, 7-1
LAKE CHARLES, La. – McNeese State used a six run fifth inning to down the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7-1 Sunday afternoon. UAPB (0-3) was led offensively by Josh Cassidy. The third baseman went 2-for-2 and was walked once. Vladimir Gomez earned the Golden Lions other hit of the day, a double in the second inning. Blake Estep picked up the loss.
University of South Florida Clearwater Tournament
South Florida def. ALABAMA STATE, 12-4
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Alabama State University could slow host University of South Florida down in its 12-4 loss Sunday afternoon at the USF Clearwater Tournament. ASU (1-2) had two finish with multi-hit days. Yamil Pagan went 3-for-4 to lead the Hornets and Einar Muniz had two hits of his own. Both recorded a run. Charles Taylor struck out a team-high two batters in 3.1 innings of work, but received the loss.
Houston Baptist def. PRAIRIE VIEW A&M, 15-0
HOUSTON, Texas – Prairie View A&M University fell 15-0 to Houston Baptist on the road Sunday afternoon. Two Panthers had multi-hit days. Both Connor Wrye and Angel Avalos went 2-for-3 at the plate. Starter Charles Philpott received the loss. He went 4.1 innings and gave up five earned runs.
