During his 31-year coaching career, Lee has been part of four schools that have won conference championships in the MEAC.
Lee has had stints as defensive coordinator at North Carolina A&T, Hampton and Morgan State. In seven of the last 12 seasons in the position, Lee’s defenses were among the best in the MEAC and in the FCS.
Lee took over as head coach at North Carolina A&T, going 6-16 in 2009 and 2010 before he was replaced by Rod Broadway.
He replaces Derrick Burroughs, who is now the head football coach and athletic director at Lane College.
Under Burroughs, Jackson State was ranked No. 3 in the SWAC in total defense (366 yards per game), No. 4 in scoring defense (27.4 points per game) and No. 2 in pass defense (195 yards per game) in 2014.
