Virginia State is set to hire Richmond assistant Byron Thweatt as its next head coach.
Thweatt, 36, will replace Latrell Scott who left Virgina State for Norfolk State in December.
He will be introduced during a press conference this afternoon.
Thweatt had been an assistant coach at Richmond for eight seasons coaching linebackers and was the program director of high school relations and recruiting coordinator.
“There’s a lot of buzz at Virginia State, so I’m very pleased with the opportunity,”said Thweatt to the Richmond Times-Dispatch “That’s a community I grew up in and it’s a great opportunity for me to give back to the community and continue a tradition that has really taken off.”
