NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina A&T State’s Kwashaun Quick was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. South Carolina State’s Darius Leonard was named Defensive Player of the Week.
North Carolina A&T’s Marquell Cartwright earned Rookie of the Week honors while Howard’s Toree Boyd was selected as the Offensive Lineman of the Week. Mykael Martin of North Carolina Central was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Quick (QB, 6-0, 188, Jr., Laurinburg, N.C.) completed 22-of-29 passes for 249 yards with four touchdowns in a 45-0 win over Morgan State. He recorded 198 yards passing in the first half as he led the Aggies to a 31-0 halftime lead in a game that featured two first place teams. He also rushed for 63 yards on 18 carries and recorded career highs in completions, pass attempts and completion percentage (.759).
Leonard (LB, 6-3, 200, r-Fr., Lake View, S.C.) finished with a game-high 13 tackles, 12 solo, with two sacks for 17 yards, and 3.5 tackles for a loss of 20 yards in a 34-17 win over Florida A&M. He also forced a fumble and a quarterback hurry in the win.
Cartwright (RB, 190, Fr., High Point, N.C.) rushed 18 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in a win over Morgan State. He also caught a 47-yard pass for his second touchdown of the game.
Boyd (OT, 6-4, 310, So., Miami, Fla.) graded out at 92-percent of his blocking assignments as the Bison rolled up a season high 607 yards of total offense in a win over Savannah State. He allowed no sacks and no penalties and collected three pancake blocks to help Howard record its second conference victory of the season.
Martin (DB, 6-0, 170, Fr., Greensboro, N.C.) returned a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown in the Eagles 47-13 win over Hampton.
