Morgan State quarterback Robert Council was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Donald Mattocks, of North Carolina A&T, was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Darius Leonard, of South Carolina State, earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Morgan State teammates Darren Pinnock and Chris Moller were named Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
Council (QB, 6-4, 215, r-Sr., Camden, S.C.) connected on 13 of 22 passes for 168 yards with two touchdowns in a 38-35 win over Howard. He also rushed 90 yards on 14 carries with one touchdown to help the Bears record their first conference victory of the season.
Mattocks (CB, 5-8, 178, r-Sr., Burlington, N.C.) collected three interceptions in the first half in a win over Chowan. He returned the interceptions for 80 total yards to help the Aggies record the 59-0 win.
Leonard (LB, 6-3, 210, r-Fr., Lake View, S.C.) finished with seven tackles (6 solo), with one sack and two tackles for a loss. He also forced and recovered a fumble and posted three quarterback hurries to lead the Bulldogs defense to a 17-7 victory over No. 21 Furman.
Pinnock (OL, 6-4, 330, Sr., Miami, Fla.) graded out of 96-percent of his assignments as he aided the Bears to 435 yards of total offense in a 38-35 win over Howard. He collected four pancake blocks and did not give up any penalties or surrender any sacks in the conference victory.
Moller (P/K, 5-11, 215, r-So., Newport News, Va.) tallied 407 yards on seven kickoffs (58.1 avg.), including a touchback, in the Bears win over Howard. He also finished a perfect 5-of-5 in point after attempts and 1-of-2 in field goals, including the game-winning 38-yard field goal to help the Bears pullout a 38-35 victory with 28 seconds remaining.
