Just days before the first game of the Rick Comegy era, the Mississippi Valley State head coach has not decided on a quarterback ahead of the season opener against the University of Faith.
“We haven’t decided yet,” Comegy said on Monday. “We have a few more days.”
The current quarterback battle is between incumbent Patrick Ivy, senior Carl Davis, Dontrinell Scott and junior college transfer Quantavius Peterson.
Ivy started nine games last season throwing for 1,400 yards and 10 touchdowns. Scott was a starter his freshman season and appeared in three games in 2013.
Comegy, in his first year at MVSU, explained his rationale behind the delay in naming a starter comes from wanting to continue the competition going among the hopefuls.
“We don’t want to stop the competition,” he said.
Comegy, however, expects to name a starter Thursday.
