With less than two weeks remaining until the start of the regular season, Southern has settled on a starting quarterback.
According Les East of The Advocate, head coach Dawson Odums has named Deonte Shorts the starter for season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette Aug. 30.
Austin Howard will be the backup, but is expected to also see time during the game, The Advocate said.
Jarrad Hayes will be No. 3 or “emergency” QB. Preference for #Southern would be to redshirt Hayes, if circumstances allow. @AdvocateSports
In recent weeks, Odums had hinted that he might go with two quarterback for at least the first game, but hadn’t settled on a starter.
