Not much has gone right for Grambling State athletics over the last 19 months.

The football and men’s basketball teams went on historic losing streaks. Coaches were fired.

There were boycotts by athletes and press conferences by school officials explaining the dysfunction plaguing what had been the regarded as the gold standard in HBCU athletics.

Quite frankly, there hasn’t been anything to laugh about.

However, Grambling baseball coach James Cooper, whose Tigers stand just two games under .500 (6-8) in the SWAC West recently made an appearance on ESPN 97.7 Deitrich and White Show to chat about everything from his favorite baseball movie to the program’s prospects for the remainder of the regular season.

Cooper on his favorite Kevin Costner film:

“I think Field of Dreams because it was one of my grandfather’s favorite movies.”

On what movies his players like to watch on road trips:

“We mix it up a lot. They tried to watch Pineapple Express and I had to turned that crap off. I couldn’t watch that.”
