Jackson State University released its 2014 football schedule Sunday.

The 12-game schedule features 7 home games and 3 non-conference games that include 2 matchups against familiar HBCU foes.  The schedule also marks the coaching debut of first year coach Harold Jackson who was named the schools new coach on Jan. 13.

The Tigers will open the season with a 2-game home stand on Aug. 30 against Florida A&M in the W.C. Gorden Classic and then host Virginia-Lynchburg on Sept. 6.

JSU will play its final non-conference game of the season against Tennessee State on Sept. 13 in the annual Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis, Tenn.

Two other notable games are the Tigers’ Sept 9 matchup against Grambling and their Oct. 10 matchup against Mississippi Valley State.

Grambling will be making the first of 3 annual appearances to Jackson due to a SWAC mandate that requires the G-Men to play in Jackson due to missing Jackson State’s homecoming game last season.  Mississippi Valley State will enter the city of Jackson under first year (and former Jackson State) head coach Rick Comegy.

Comegy coached Jackson State last season to a 8-4 record before being fired on Dec. 18
