Grambling State strong start undone in 62-point loss to LSU

Grambling State will officially begin its 2014 football season under first year head coach Broderick Fobbs when the Tigers face Southland Conference member Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas on Aug. 30, according to a schedule published on the school’s athletic website.

The 12-game schedule, which puts the Tigers on the road for the first six games of the season, features two more nonconference contests in as many weeks against the University of Houston on Sept. 6 and MEAC member Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 13.

A conference opener at Jackson State on Sept. 20 will be the first of three games Grambling must play at JSU through the 2016 season, due to a conference mandate that penalized Grambling for forfeiting Jackson State’s homecoming game last season.

Grambling will continue its road swing in the annual State Fair Classic, against Prairie View A&M at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Sept. 27, before completing the 6-game road trip at Alabama A&M on Oct. 4.

The first of only three home games will be played when the Tigers host Alcorn State for High School Day on Oct. 11, followed by the Tigers’ homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Oct. 18.

The Tigers will play back-to-back games on the road against Texas Southern (Nov. 1) and Mississippi Valley State (Nov. 8) before playing their final home game against Alabama State on Nov. 15.

New Orleans will be the final destination of the regular season for the Tigers when they face Southern University in the Bayou Classic on Nov. 29.
