Block-JSU-LogoBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2013 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament champions, Jackson State University, will face No. 1 national seed LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional to open its run in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The match-up is slated for Friday, May 31, at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field, on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge, La. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.

The announcement was made today (May 27) during the NCAA Baseball Selection Show on ESPNU.

JSU (34-20), the winner of 15 SWAC baseball crowns, will make its fourth trip to the postseason regional and its third in Baton Rouge.

JSU captured the SWAC East Division regular season championship and will make its first postseason appearance since 2000 – losing to LSU before being eliminated by New Orleans.

The Tigers have faced LSU (52-9) twice in postseason play while holding a 0-4 all-time record against LSU. JSU is 0-6 in baseball regional play also dropping games to Texas A&M and UNLV in 1989.

The Tigers made their first appearance in the 1986 regional in Baton Rouge and were eliminated by Louisiana Tech after losing to host LSU.

Opposite JSU and LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional are Sam Houston State and Louisiana-Lafayette. The NCAA Regional is a four-team, double elimination bracket played from Friday, May 31, through Sunday, June 2, or Monday, June 3, if game seven is necessary.

All games will be broadcast by the ESPN family of networks.
