Sources at Alcorn State have confirmed that Patric Simon has resigned as the school’s athletic director.
The resignation comes just one week after the school announced Jay Hopson as its first white head football coach.
According to sources, Simon emailed a letter to Alcorn State President Christopher Brown Monday morning formally resigning from the AD position. However, it was known as early as Thursday that Simon would resign.
Simon was announced as Alcorn’s AD back on Feb. 24 and officially began working for the school on April 1. Prior to joining Alcorn State, Simon served as the athletic director at Langston University since 2008.
Simon’s name is still listed on the athletic website as Director of InterCollegiate Athletics.
Simon released a statement Monday evening saying he resigned for personal reasons.
“I will always be grateful to Alcorn State University, President Brown, the student-athletes that make Alcorn a great institution and the alumni/boosters from across Mississippi and the United States,” Simon said. “While I will not be able to lead Alcorn’s athletic programs any longer, I wish Alcorn State well in all of their future endeavors.”
