BATON ROUGE, La. – Defending SWAC tournament champion Alcorn State rolled to a 6-2 victory over Grambling State in the opening game of the 2012 SWAC Baseball Tournament.
The Braves spotted GSU two early runs, but answered with a single run in the fifth and took the lead for good with a 3-run sixth. Steve Easter pitched a complete game to get the win for the Braves.
Alcorn State had five players in its lineup collect two hits, and Justin Barney drove in two runs as ASU advanced to face the winner of the Southern / Mississippi Valley State game on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
Grambling’s Thomas Brown III was 2 for 3 at the plate to lead the Tigers. Richard Bautista threw a complete game in the loss. GSU falls to an elimination game vs. the Southern / MVSU loser on Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
