The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its Week 1 football players of the week on Tuesday.
Offensive Player of the Week – Nick Andrews (WR, Alabama State)
Andrews caught a career high 10 passes for 104 yeard and 3 touchdowns in the Hornets’ season opening win at Mississippi Valley State.
Defensive Player of the Week – Cliff Exama (LB, Grambling State)
Exama recorded a game high 10 total tackles (4 solo) and 3.0 tackles-for-loss (9 yards) in the Tigers’ opening win past Alcorn State in the Port City Classic. He also forced a fumble.
Newcomer of the Week – Greg Jenkins (QB, Alabama State)
Playing in his first game at Alabama State after transferring from Troy University, Jenkins completed 19 of 27 passes for 188 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for 56 yards and another score.
Specialist of the Week – Chance Wilson (PK/P, Alabama A&M)
Wilson averaged 49.3 yards per punt with 2 of them downed inside the 20-yard-line. He also hit 2 of 3 field goal attempts, including a 41-yarder.
