Alcorn State University head tennis coach Dr. Anthony Dodgen announces that the SWAC champion men’s tennis team will face Texas A&M of the Big 12 Conference at 2PM Friday the 13th at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station.
The Braves earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Championships by beating arch-rival Jackson State in the conference championships on April 17th in Alexandria, Louisiana.
The other first round match is between at-large teams LSU from the SEC and Indiana from the Big 10 at 11AM also on the 13th.
The winners of the first round matches will face each other at 3PM on Saturday, May the 14th for the right to advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, California, beginning May the 19th.
Dr. Dodgen said this about facing Texas A&M:” We are proud to represent Alcorn State University and the SWAC conference against such an outstanding team as Texas A&M. The Braves are playing great tennis right now and we have been working hard in practice to get as close as possible to our peak performance level. We played the best tennis of the season against Jackson State and we finally reached a level where we made very few unforced errors. That is the mental approach that we are going to take into the NCAA Regionals. We are going to give it our best effort and see how it goes.”
The Braves tennis players are Alejandro Dominguez, Winfred Weinbeer, Pushpen Rajpurohit, Yanick Shearron-Hopkins, Alexander Lidzar and Anton Krutkin.
