The folks at The Sports Network finally did the right thing. Grambling’s Frank Warren is officially a candidate for the Walter Payton Award. It only took half a season, but I guess it’s better to be late than never.
We will probably never know if took calling TSN out last week for not having Warren on the list before now, but we will take some satisfaction in the result of him finally making the list.
In a 35-14 win over Mississippi Valley on Saturday, Warren rushed for 209 yards on 27 carries and 2 touchdowns. As it now stands, Warren needs 49 yards to surpass Walter Payton to become the SWAC’s 5th all-time leading rusher.
Unfortunately UAPB’s Raymond Webber is not on the list. Webber currently leads the nation (FCS) in receptions per game, is 3rd in the nation in receiving yards per game and is 3rd in the nation in total receiving yards.
BOUT TIME!!!!
