Sophomore Clay Myers shot a 78 Saturday, which tied his first day score of 78. Freshman James Rayner shot a 75 in the final round, which was the lowest of the regional for JSU. Rayner’s 75 was 13 strokes better than the previous round. Sophomore Maurice Jefferies shot a 77, nine strokes better than the previous round. Sophomore Curtis Stanton shot a tournament best 80 Saturday and junior Julius Arterberry struggled on the final day of the regional as he posted a 99.
“We played much better Saturday than we did in the first two rounds of the regional,” said JSU head coach Eddie Payton. “Today I saw the potential for our team to compete at a high level in the future.”
Texas Tech shot a 285 Saturday to win the South Central Regional to advance to the NCAA Championship Finals. The four other teams from the South Central Regional that qualified for the Championship Finals include: Texas A&M, TCU, North Florida and Baylor.
