BIRMINGHAM – The 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament will be played at Shreveport, LA’s Fair Grounds Field, Commissioner Duer Sharp announced today.
This year’s tournament will be played May 26-30, with the top four teams in each of the SWAC’s Eastern and Western Divisions qualifying for Conference postseason play.
The SWAC Baseball Tournament returns to Fair Grounds Field for the first time since 2002. The park is home of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
“We thank the Mayors of Shreveport and Bossier City, City Council members, as well as the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority, and Craig Brasfield of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains for again hosting the SWAC Baseball Tournament,” SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp said. “We’re excited to bring our baseball championship to ‘Louisiana’s Other Side’ and Fair Grounds Field to cap our Championship events for the 2009-10 athletic year.”
“Shreveport is very pleased to be the next host to SWAC’s Baseball Championship at Fair Grounds Field,” Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover said. “We have had a ‘comprehensive plan and recipe for success’ for our partnership with SWAC for a very long time and hosting the baseball championship is a key ingredient! Our community will embrace this championship and the student-athletes. We absolutely look forward to creating a great championship event and watching some great baseball!”
“We are again enthusiastic and appreciative for the local community being host to the 2010 SWAC Baseball Tournament,” Bossier City Mayor Lorenz ‘Lo’ Walker said. “We know the players, coaches and fans will be well received and well supported, and the competition will be first class.”
Now that the Basketball and Baseball Championships will be played there – why not the Football Championship??? Even the SWAC Headquarters itself wouldn’t be a bad idea !
