SWAC Releases 2008 Soccer Schedule

swac.gifBIRMINGHAM – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released its 2008 Conference Women’s Soccer Schedule today, decorated by a number of divisional matchups that could decide who participates in the 2008 SWAC Soccer Tournament.

The season opens on August 16 as Jackson State travels to Alabama while Southern hosts William Carey. The following weekend will see six teams take to the field as defending champion Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, Alabama State, Southern, Grambling State and Mississippi Valley State will all be in action. September is filled with SWAC teams readying for conference play by facing non-conference opponents. On September 5 and 7, eight teams will be in action both days.

October is the month for divisional play as the teams begin their quest for conference supremacy. While the divisional matches are important, several non-divisional matchups loom as key contests down the stretch. Among them are Alabama State at Prairie View A&M (October 3), Grambling State at Jackson State (October 5), Southern at Alcorn State (October 10), Jackson State at Southern (October 17) and Mississippi Valley State at Grambling State (October 26).

The final weekend of play will be important to those teams looking for a spot in the conference tournament. On October 31, Grambling State travels to Arkansas-Pine Bluff while Southern is at Prairie View A&M and Alcorn State is at Alabama A&M. November 2 is highlighted by Southern at Texas Southern and Mississippi Valley State at Alabama A&M. The 2008 SWAC Women’s Soccer Tournament to be held November 5-9 at Mississippi Valley State University. Below is the first date of competition for the ten schools:

Alabama A&M – August 22 at Tennessee-Martin, 1p

Alabama State – August 22 versus South Carolina State, 7p

Alcorn State – August 23 at Jackson State (JSU’s President’s Cup), noon

Grambling State – August 22 at Auburn, 7p

Jackson State – August 16 at Alabama, 5p

Mississippi Valley State – August 22 at Mississippi State, 7p

Prairie View A&M – August 26 at Texas College, 3p

Southern – August 16 versus William Carey, 6p

Texas Southern – August 22 at Houston Baptist, 3p

Univ. of Arkansas-Pine Bluff – August 23 versus LSU-Shreveport (JSU’s President’s Cup), 10a
