Leading up to this week’s annual Southwestern Athletic Conference Media Day, HBCU Sports will forecast our preseason predictions for the upcoming 2015 season.
SWAC East Champion – Alcorn State
Grambling State is the last school to win back-to-back SWAC championships.
The Tigers won three consecutive titles from 2000 to 2002.
In 2015, Alcorn State will try to repeat as conference champions.
The Braves return a host of starters on offense and defense led by quarterback John Gibbs Jr., who burst on the scene in 2014 to win co-Offensive Player of the Year honors and helped Alcorn State win the school’s first conference championship in the divisional era.
The offense will also feature FCS preseason All-American selection tight end Jordan Payne to an already deep receiving corp.
Alcorn has not been in the position of favorites to win the SWAC Eastern Division as they will be come the season opener in less than 50 days.
Even though the division is improving with an influx coaching and player talent, Alcorn State is still the team to beat.
