Actually the kid has a chance at the first round. He has blown away coaches and scouts with his 4.3 speed. He also has the NFL size to be a good Pro-WR.
I think he will come off the boards pretty quick after the top WRs like Edwards of Michigan, Williams of USC, Willamson of S. Carolina and Clayton come off. Those 4 are the only locks in the first round according to most publications and sports media.

u gotta factor in the Matt Jones effect too, because he runs a 4.37, and u know how the NFL is in love with big receivers, he is 6'6, and 225lbs. plus. Even though is would be a project folks are drooling over that dude.

I've heard that he was too small to go in the first round.

Matt Jones could become another Drew Bennett of the Tennessee Titans...Bennett was the QB at UCLA for a while before switchin to WR

but I like Matt Jones, he's a gamer

if the combine says Mathis is 5'9-5'11..then he really is 5'9-5'11...it all depends on if Keyshawn leaves Dallas, which might prompt the Cowboys to draft Mike Williams...Jones might not go in the first because he's labeled as a project...

but you never know how things work out in the war rooms

Mike Williams will not be on the board when the Cowboys draft. Mike will probably end up with my Vikings with the number 7 pick if Troy Williamson doesn't leap frog him. Minnesota may go after him instead. But the feeling around here is that Mike is a done deal.

Mathis still may go higher than we think. Torry Holt is no bigger than that either, neither is Marvin Harrison or Hines Ward who are all Pro-Bowl WRs. Also I hear Joe Gibbs is enamored with Mathis. Gibbs likes those smaller and faster WRs. Also look for a team who already has a big WR to throw to on the other side, but has no speed to draft Mathis.

Some one will take him that needs his speed. He is offically measured at 5'11" and 180lbs. There are some WR's in the NFL that are doing well is that size or smaller. Mathis will surprise alot of people. :wavey:

oh he is definitely gonna get drafted it might be later in the rounds, kinda like somebody finding a diamond in the rough.

First off i've seen the kid play and train....he's not a small kid...Mathis is 6'1...190...Also the 4.3 they have listed for him came off a sore ham at the combine....This kid has run a 4.19 for the scouts last season during spring workouts....THere is no way that the scout will give him credit for that type of speed coming from an HBCU. He has some work to do but he has the talent to make it at the next level, just like the other great HBCU players in the league...past and present.

The boy is a beast man. I watched the games he played at the end of the season and the dude looked like a man among boys. Fast Fast Fast and even Faster.

I'm willing to bet he'll be gone in the 1st round.



Matt Jones is interesting as well. I mean, how do you pass-up a super fast 6'6 athlete. I mean, that's Randy Moss speed and taller too. The boy is a freak man. Watching him play at Arkansas I predicted that his draft status would be hyped-up like this.

Mel Kiper has Mathis going in the beginning of the 2nd round.
