This game really could have been a whitewash. Lanier was up by about 24 in the 2nd quarter when Billups took all 5 starters out with about 4 minutes left in the half. His cue: Lanier went on a 2 on 1 fast break and the PG threw the ball off the backboard and Monte Ellis finished it with a thunderous two-handed dunk. With the reserves in, Noxubee cut the lead to 12 at the half.
Anybody else, Billups woulda left those guys in until about 30 seconds left in the game. Score woulda been 108-40.
I did see the dumbest play of the year. In the 3rd quarter Lanier's center, Charles Rhodes, stole a pass and dribbled down uncontested. He threw the ball off the backboard, jumped to catch it, and the ball went flying right over his head back upcourt to a Noxubee player. Billups pulled him and he didn't play again.
Looking forward to the 6th installment of Lanier-Provine. Lanier leads 3-2, but this on is for all the marbles.
