The dress code does not apply to those who are not members of that congregation.

But for the members, and if YOU decide to become a part of that congregation, then the guidelines that they follow should be explained to you. Like I said before, it is not forced on you and you DON'T have to follow it.

Ya'll act like people are standing over them with a gavel yelling...DON"T WEAR PANTS!" Be realistic, ya'll..... Just because they are informed does not mean it is being screamed at them and enforced. The Church is not the gestapo!

And if you CHOOSE to tell them you have nothing to wear, Christians from that particular congregation WILL step in and assist you if you don't mind a helping hand. Nobody is going to lock the church doors or chastize you because you do just the opposite.

Churches, just like cities, schools, etc., have guidelines/rules. If the attire is one of those, why are you contesting it? Is it that serious? Oh okay, they waited until you became a member and changed their guidelines. :look: We as members should have no problem being obedient, that is IF the LORD has truly pricked our hearts.

And don't nobody else say nothing about bad taste in attire. You're making this thread U-turn like a mug! :kaioken: :p

 @ SLT!!!
Girl, but I am also talking about pants, too.

But anyway, I feel you. ... on the part that being harsh about telling people what to wear or not....
But I was really talking IN GENERAL and not about your church.
And also, I when I said "let someone get in the door good," I WAS talking about New Members. I know you can't tell visitors/non-members how to adhere to your church guidelines.

But just like you said, "We as members should have no problem being obedient, that is IF the LORD has truly pricked our hearts."---- that maybe so, but God can and WILL deal with that same person, as you all think God is dealing with You.
Folks so quick to say, "God laid this upon my heart..."... But the same God that talked to you, can talk to that individual as well (IF he/she is trying to listen).

You know what...this could back and forth all day.

I'm not gonna get caught up in loopholes and technicalities about something like attire.

I've said from the beginning what our congregation does and that it has nothing to with your soul. That was the question, and my pastor has never preached/taught on the reason.

Everyone is different and that's how it's always gonna be. That is, until JESUS returns!

Nothing more. :D

Many Blessings! :D

Re: These are MY personal feelings from Personal Experience

Something that makes me laugh about this whole attire thing is if a young woman comes to church (in some smaller churches that I have attended) and her dress or skirt is above the knee...you can see the ushers running to put a lap scarf over her legs...:D

I visited my mom's church while I was pregnant and I had a dress on. Well my big stomach made my legs show,...before I could sit down good a lap scarf was handed to me. I guess my fat knees was gon' entice the pastor...even though I was sitting on the 5th row! I didn't mind though. But it makes me laugh like crazy!

Dr. H....I do hope you're speaking for yourself. I guarantee you that the Baptist church I attend is not being controlled by anyone but JESUS!

It is asked of us and we have no problem with it. We are not taught anything about this harming your soul or your church.

Bondage and submitting to a request are two different things. I have to admit that some faiths do take your attire a little too far. We have people who do wear pants, and they are not scolded for doing so. But, if that person decides to become a member, then she is informed and she then makes a decision to adhere or not. If she doesn't want to adhere, she will still be welcomed into the church.

But c'mon, women have been wearing dresses to church for centuries, so why is it a problem now? And most of my finest threads just so happen to be dresses and I always strive to always give the LORD my best, both inside and out.

Is it bondage if your employer required you to wear a uniform to work everyday? If so...would you obey it?

And I do believe that when you are told to come as you are, JESUS is talking about you as a person on the inside, not your outside appearance.
I got to be honest. This tread was over when SLT posted what I bolded.

Most women know when going to church, wear a dress.

Re: These are MY personal feelings from Personal Experience

I was raised wearing dresses, skirts to anything that is at the church, whether it be Sunday service, Bible Study, or choir rehearsal.

Now that I'm older and haved moved away, I still only wear dresses or skirts with pantyhose/stockings and closed toe heels to Sunday worship. However, if I am going to church from work for a meeting or Bible Study, I wear slacks, pants suit, if that's what I've had on all day.

There is no spoken dress code.

Oh yeah, you will get "draped" by a deaconess, if you sit on the front row and your skirt goes above your knees when you sit down. They have nice, church color green drapes. :)

I know this girl who was on the basketball team while I was in college who never wore pants unless she had to wear shorts for her game, after that, it was back to long skirts and dresses.... I assume it was a religion thing.

I remember her [if it is the same young lady] I think she played for a SEC team and saw her playing on TV. I remember the announcers saying ?her religious teaching prohibits her from wearing ?pants? so she had a skirt on over her pants? I think they said she was Pentacostal.

?God has the power to change anything including our hearts.?

That is true, however He cannot change it unless we are willing to change. God desire is to save everyone, but there are some that are going to be lost, because they are not willing to change. ?The renewing of your mind?

You know pregnant women, excites a man. Personally, I think some women are more attractive while they are pregnant. I had a friend that was rough looking, but after she became pregnant, oh! How things changed.

I just find it interesting how an individual [men & women] can go out and purchase expensive business suits, shirts and ties for an interview, go clubbing or go out on a date. However, on Sunday morning they feel that they can wear whatever they want to serve God. If it were not for God, they would not have had the funds to purchase the expensive clothes.

Why do some of us play God so cheap?

Why do some of us play God so cheap?

Let me say this:

If I choose to put on slacks or a dress to go to church, THE SAME GOD gave me the ability to buy and the freedom to choose <b>one or the other</b>. It does not mean we play God cheap. It, for me, means, I want to be comfortable today and my heels do not allow that. Plus, when I wore stockings, heals, dress etc... I was always late for church getting primped in the mirror. Well, God says I can come to him just like I am. I was not born with heels, a dress, stockings, hats, etc. I was born nekkid...Although, I would not come up in the building nekkid...it would offend someone.

I just think when a person concerns himself with what I have on at my church, he has lost focus of what HIS purpose is for being there. My reason for going is to worship GOD, learn about God, and learn to be a blessing to someone else. Learn how to let my light shine.

Realize that the person who bought the business suit may not be the same one who is "playing God cheap"... I think the fact that I have clothes at all is a blessing...and as long as I am clean, non-offensive and there with the right purposes in mind...my clothes shant matter to me. It is not my problem if someone else has an issue with my jeans; it is their problem for they have lost true focus. I don't mean skin-tight offensive jeans. I mean some nice clean blue jeans and a shirt.

We get so stuck on symantecs sometimes that we lose focus of the TRUE focus: JESUS CHRIST.

Please accept my apology the "Why do some of us play God so cheap?" statement was not directed toward you. That was just a general statement meaning, how can folks give the "world" it's best and give God less.

Again accept my apology, if you think my comment was directed toward you.

***HOLY HUG*********

No apology is needed. I did not take it personal. Although I shared some personal thoughts, it is not with anger or malice..... just trying to pull some more thoughts on our subject. :)
