Here’s some good news for Windows fans the world over. Microsoft will allow you to upgrade from Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows Phone 8 for free to Windows 10.

During today’s unveiling of Windows 10 for consumers, Terry Myerson executive vice president of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, revealed that the company will allow users of its most recent operating system, Windows 8.1, to upgrade free to its upcoming operating system in perpetuity. The 600-million-odd users of Windows 7 will have a year to take advantage of the full upgrade.

Anybody upgrade to windows 10 yet?

I have the upgrade icon on my computer but I haven't clicked it yet to get the upgrade.

I clicked the button and if I remember correctly it said you will be notified when to upgrade.

Anyone know how to update domain computers to Windows 10? Toolkit 9.2 was supposed to fix the issue, but I'm not sure how to use it. Thanks if anyone knows

I was able to download a kit that let me create an iso of the Windows 10 upgrade, but now it is asking for a product key, I tried the key that came with my windos 7 but no luck. ugghhhh why does Microsoft make things so difficult

Use the media creation tool on your Windows 7 installation and and do an "upgrade". It will use your existing activation. It will give you a choice of:

1. Keep all apps, settings, files
2. Keep settings and files
3. Keep nothing

Just what I was afraid of, I guess I have to do the huge download on each of my domain computers, thanks for letting me know I'm stuck with the way I was doing it because the DVD doesn't give you a choice ugh

Actually, you can use the media creation tool to download the iso file, copy it to the different computers, use something like Virtual CloneDrive to mount the iso file, and install it that way.

I tried that, it didn't work. I just took the workstation out of the domain to test it, the download of windows 10 hasn't happened yet, but I requested it already

Weird, it worked for 2 of my computers. Just noticed that you said domain computers. Which version of Windows is currently installed? Starter, Home Premium, Pro, Enterprise, etc??

Windows 7 Pro, they don't allow the upgrade on domain computers unless you remove it or use the media tool, but the media creation tool kept asking for a product key, so I gave up and removed the computer from the domain
