Maybe I am looking at this totally wrong, but if these "best black players" were so interested in playing for black head coaches, more of them would be at HBCUs. Don't they all have black head coaches? Hey, I'm just saying.

They want all the glitz and glam of the FBS of course, they won't get that at HBCUs. UH is right across the street from TSU and comparing the athletic facilities and resources between the schools make TSU look like a JV team .... the FBS programs have some amazing perks that will make it hard for star players to pass up.
Also, many black people are anti-HBCU ... majority of college educated black people never attended a HBCU so they got mentors and loved ones in their ear steering them away b/c they don't understand the many benefits. I know of star athletes that told me this. And it's more likely these star players can wear a suit to work than football pads ... only a small few that don't have a career ending injury (football is so violent) make it professionally and studies show HBCU graduates have more fulfilling experiences than students at non-HBCUs. A lot of these players priorities and plans are out of order
But Florida ex starting QB is at Tennessee State. Ole Miss ex starting QB is at Ole Miss. I'm seeing an uptick of FBS transfer to HBCUs which is good. And now that Howard and Tenn St. had those big wins last weekend, I see more of them reconsidering HBCUs as an option.

you sure? Most blacks I know in the South who went to college enrolled at HBCUs. Now getting the second generation to follow is the hardest as the HBCU education helped put them in a comfortable situation but the kid only knows the comfortable situation. There's a reason schools like Sam, SFA, UH, Se Louisiana, ULL, etc. have grown black enrollments thanks in part to SWAC alums.
Those kids will still go there. They were going before he got hired.

Sumlin (his black card) helped them bring the best recruiting classes in A&M history so not true. Before him, they never had top 5 recruiting classes
They weren't in the SEC prior to Sumlin either....Them over-performing that first year in the SEC with Johnny Manziel and the push to try to make A&M cool on social media to prospective athletes had a lot to do with their ability to produce top recruiting classes the past few years. Having Sumlin, a black man at the helm in name helped some, but I think the move to the SEC and the crazy facility upgrades probably had more to do with those top 10 recruiting classes than Sumlin.

Just like at UH when he won with art briles' recruits. Sumlin is nothing but smoke and mirrors. A bad coach who was in the right place at the right time. He was lauded for maintaining Briles' program for what? 2 years? Then A&M was dumb enough (typical aggies)to hire him and even more dumb to reward him with a massive extension after the heisman year. Sherman left him with an NFL offensive line. You could throw manziel or anyone else behind them and get results.
I think being in the SEC helped more.
