Why the optimism about JSU Football?

SU Jag 79

Jaguar ALUM
This is mainly for GR, but any Blue Bengal is welcome to answer. You asked about why us Jags see a chance for success in 2006. Why do you see that for Jackson State? I mean, I see more challenges for the Tigers than for almost any team in the SWAC. You are basically in Southern's position in 1993 except for one thing..... the talent. We both got winning coaches from Division II with great supporting staffs.

However, this man thought so less of what JSU had that he brought in over 55 new players to encourage competition. That's not a bad thing, but that could lead to a tense training camp that is going to see players compete for a spot on the team, not on the field. Most of the SWAC is starting with a foundation, but JSU could not possibly get that in just training camp. I could see this optimism going into next year with Comegy, but his first year in DI-AA, we will see.

Convince me that the rest of the SWAC should take notice and not just that "We are JSU" stuff because you were JSU the last three years too.

Yea, besides the All-american juco qb, what else do you have?
What type of offense and def. are you trying to run w/ these new
players?

Are all these players the type that will fit into Comegy's
scheme? Or most of the guys are just players that were
last minute pick ups.

Forgot.......................Ya'll went 11-0 last year and picked up the entire USATODAY top 10 All-American Highschool players for 2006.:nod2:

I think what many don't understand is just how BAD of a coach James Bell was. JSU had some talent, just not enough of it. And even with the depth issues, JSU didn't have a horrible start to last season despite the pathetic coaching. Also there are some pretty good players, including some transfers, in that 55. Comegy signed 55 players not because he wanted to scrap the entire team. He signed that many because that many and more wanted to come here after Bell's departure. Heck, I know two kids, including one from Texas going to PV who wasn't a part of the 55 who wanted to come to JSU.

Mr. Tiger isn't predicting any championship this season, but don't be shocked if JSU is better than you expect. Don't underestimate the horrible coaching of James Bell who had trouble simply getting his plays in on time and deciding if he should run the ball up the middle against an eight-man line.

And, I will conclude by saying my familar refrain "COMEGY AIN'T NO BELL." That is all....

Damn, I guess I can't argue with that.

First of all we play in the SWAC. If you are honest, you will admit that the SWAC is the most horrible conference in football. Our division winners cant compete with average D2 teams. If we were playing in any other conference in the country, GR wouldnt be so optimistic about the season.

Its not that we have gotten so good all of a sudden....its that...for right now, the SWAC is so bad.

Secondly, the SWAC is depleted. Grambling won the SWAC last year off the arm of one man...A 6th year QB that was experienced enough to call his own plays and adlib. Non of the other teams in the SWAC have gotten better in the past 3 years, with the exception of Valley (and you know Valleys record against JSU).

Thirdly, GR wont get into the details of who JSU has coming in and about players that are already here. You are conditioned to deny that anyway. GR wont get into the Comegy factor either. Just know that JSU will be totally different, while the rest of you have remained the same.

so if JSU would have won the SWAC the last 3 years what would your logic be?? PV beating the crap out of yall was improvement for them and very embarrasing to JSU..your contradiction is a bit contagious i see.. Valley has lost to JSU but beat SU last year, the same SU who has beaten JSue so please explain it to us lil folk a lil better..Big Ready also Valley blasted PV and PV turns around and destroys JSue..so if Valley and PV (traditional bottom buddies) are not getting better than what is the SWAC doing? AAMU beat the mess out of you all and that was a fluke, but when you beat the hell out of PV in the 90's 70-20 that was dominance?? i usually am entertain by the Grits here but he has been slippin...Chavez High School's Head Coach should be available if BOOKMAN don't work out!

We will be better because of :

1. Offensive Playcalling
2. Defensive playcalling
3. Improved Depth
4. New Attitude

Grits you and ole coach Bookman look a like...PV never beat Bell they beat one of jockwashes students..also you talk about PV like that blasting really hurts..Jackson State never made PV any money so its fitting that they beat the **** out of you..at least SU brings fans and GSU and TSU are in classics with us..see at PV we knew things would get better, but honestly i never thought that i would see JSU dip this far down...its funny that since i have arrived to SU i have never seen JSU win a football game...they really should take your big 3 membership away..

Look the Village Idiot makes another dumb ARSE statement. PV beat the snot of Jackson but he still downs PV. Hey Village Idiot never admit your downfalls. Ooops you already illustrated how ignant you are....and I thought they were lying when they said it took 6 years to earn a General Studies degree.

So you are banking on the lack of talent elsewhere and a D2 coach? Granted, this sounds a lot like Richardson and SU in 1993, we had something you guys have not shown yet ..... talent already on the team. Kimble couldn't coach, but he could recruit like a mug.

But, what makes you think other teams haven't improved? Maybe they didn't bring in a new coach and 55 new guys, but some may have brought in what they needed, others may have learned from coaching mistakes, and more may have just grown up with a year of experience. IMO, JSU is still behind the curve and the only thing you have going for you is that the early games will be to your advantage because no one knows what JSU will look like yet.

I blame himself...dude knew he couldn't pass reading. If so he would have never made that statement about Bell being the best coach in the SWAC. He must ain't comprehend what 1-9 meant.:lmao:

SWAC talent is just as good as any other D1AA conference. Its our coaching that is so bad. You really cant compare this year to 93 simply because we had some good teams in 93. There arent any good teams in the SWAC this year...a few decent teams, but none outstanding.

And you didnt say that SWAC coaches learned from their mistakes did you? Come on dude,we talking about SWAC coaches.

Sweetie Pie

Excuse the MEN while we talk sports. We know you dont have much to offer in this area, so if GR needs his internet draws washer to bring him some water, GR will let you know.

So why are you talking...you swing from so many nuts I'm surprised you don't have permanent nut stains on your lips. Hey by the way what classes you taking this semester?

Also, isn't it illegal for a student to be part of a booster? Also, why did you lie and say you were an alumnus of Jackson St. You have some explaining to do.

DSN,

Remember what happened the last time we came to Ruston?? You let a white boy drag you up and down that lake you call a stadium. This time, we are coming with two better QB's and a coach who is not nice enough to let you catch up.
