Why Southern Will Win the SWAC in 2008

Now this season, offensively the question lies in who will tote the rock? Will it be incumbent Kendrick Smith or redshirt freshmen Amonte Harper (from Clinton, Ms.) or Micah Smith from St. Aug. Also, All-State RB Jerry Joseph and Clinton's Byron Williams will come in and immediately add depth and challenge for PT.
You forgot about former All-State Silas Gibbs from Clinton,La, who sat out last season. :)

what gets me when someone comes on here and say for a fact that so and so will win the SWAC, then turn around and say our team or coaches will have to do so and do for us to be successful! lol contradicting yourselves folks! All i can say is we will have another competitve team and if everything goes as planned we should end up in Gramblingham once again with the goal of taking back whats rightfully ours!:ebrow:

Southern won't even make it to Bham. I hope they do, but they won't. Right now, I got the WEST..

1. Grambling
2. PV
3. UAPB
4 Southern
5. TxSo

Where did SU suddenly get some talent from?

Well let me predict the East then.

1. PV
2. AAMU
3.
4.
5.

Which means...jSU won't be back to B Ham. :swink:

Do you realize how crazy you sound? Your offense rolled over our defense but you still had to go to OT to win by 3 points. :xeye: Only in Sippi man. Only in Sippi.

Yardage wise, JSU manhandled and mauled A&M. We had Moody on a stretcher and Luke running for his life. We almost doubled you in total yardage.

You only stayed close because of penalties and unforced turnovers, but again yardage wise, JSU totally dominated A&M. Your running back (who averaged 100 yards per game), only had sixteen yards on 16 carries. Even in Bama, that's one yard per carry.

Don't force me to tell the rest.

Let me give you clue since you don't have the since to get one. Turnovers are forced by the defense. You really never played football did you? :retard: When your offense breaks down its because the opposing teams defense has them in shambles. You can get all the yards you want, but if don't score with them that means your offese sucks. Get it. You Sippis are so slow. :smh: Beyond sad. Please don't hold a conversation with other people about football for real okay. They would seriously laugh in your face. :smh:

How did this thread digress into bordeline smack with references to Hughes, 1998 and other past years???

We're talking about the 2008 season...

Here's my belief..

SU quarterback Bryant Lee was the most consistent in the conference last season, in his first year starting behind a patchwork offensive line.

GeeArrah asks why he dumped down to Darren Coates so much. Well simple, take what the defense gives you. Teams doubled Money Landry, which allowed the matchup of Coates on a linebacker down the field. Lee took advantage of the mismatches with the passing to Coates.

The ineligible O-linemen are all back along with those guys that played last season, so we're automatically deeper in that area. Sure, we'll miss Landry at receiver, but with White, Stewart, Roberts and company, we should be fine.

Defensively, DE Vince Lands WILL be a preseason FCS All-America pick, plus the whole D-line rotation comes back -- along with others that were ineligible.

Linebacking corps only loses Brian Lewis, who is leaving to concentrate more on his studies (outstanding student)...however, that group is deep and young.

Secondary will lose George and Osawemwenze, but Bell and Mike Williams and Toyin Akinwale gives us veterans back there...

I think Southern will take the SWAC in 08, but it'll depend on how well we run the ball and plugging in quality players in the secondary.
  Joe Manning return in the secondary. If we stay away from injuries and stuff like that I see us being the SWAC Champs.

yes he was... a good player!

It worked from the opener all the way thru the Classic... smart playcalling move on SU's part.

Competition is always a good thing...few freshmen step in and play at rb right away (although Gram's two guys did a good job). At least yall got a vet in Smith...maybe he'll have a break out year too.

Is my "homeboy" Reuben Oliver coming back? I know he was red-shirted his freshman season as a walk-on. Preaching runs in his family so yall might lose him to the "call"

Defensively, DE Vince Lands WILL be a preseason FCS All-America pick, plus the whole D-line rotation comes back -- along with others that were ineligible.

If not for Zach East, he would have been (IMO) DPOTY.

Linebacking corps only loses Brian Lewis, who is leaving to concentrate more on his studies (outstanding student)...however, that group is deep and young.

Malbreaux is the best of the bunch...they run well but kinda undersized (needed to cover the passing game). They surprised me last year!

Secondary will lose George and Osawemwenze, but Bell and Mike Williams and Toyin Akinwale gives us veterans back there...

Yall might wanna look at some freshmen... Bell is active but (imo) overhyped. Williams degressed from previous seasons. Maybe he'll bounce back his senior year.

I think Southern will take the SWAC in 08, but it'll depend on how well we run the ball and plugging in quality players in the secondary.

The West is really physical this year and I think will be competitive from top to bottom.

Gonna be one helluva season... will there be some surprises? Could be...time will tell.

Good analogy MB......... We will have depth this year barring some mass attrition. Pete has finally got some guys to come in with grades the last couple of classes and the entering Freshmen are said to have the majority of them eligible. Then with the 3 OL coming back this Spring from sitting out really helps. Rueben Oliver may be gone....but we got back the Stewart kid that was a Sr. He got another year which is great. (GR called him that light skinned OL lol) Rbs we do have a transfer in there playing this spring. I forgot where he came from. Kendrick Smith showed flashes of what he can do before getting hurt. He can catch like Coates. He had 2 TDs by air against Valley and almost had 3rd. I think if he had stayed healthy he would have pushed Coates for more time. Then we have Brian Threat who also did well as the FB/ part time RB. He has some good hands too. Plus I like the fact they are not little Rbs. All are solid. The two redshirts in Harper and Smith will make some noise. Also watch out for the Prentiss kid we got. Sounds like Pete will deploy him everywhere. Kid played Qb but is an athlete at 5'9.
We lose nothing on the Dline with Lands coming back. Actually we will be even deeper this season. Dwayne Charles shocked me last season at DT.
Him and Selders did better than I thought they would. Now the Frank Harry kid can concentrate on DL this season and not be a stand by OL. With Lee, Matthews, Byrd and Holiman at Qb. We are solid there. WRs........all I can say is Coach Dooley always do a good job there. Del Roberts, Clevan White, and Stewart should be fine. Corderious Gregory is finally back from his injury and that will be a plus. He is another 6'3 WR. Then the new Freshmen WRs we got coming in all have some good backgrounds and they have size and speed.

Malveaux, Baugh and Chapman are all back at LB.....then
you add in Corey Ray who played well along with vets like Donald Steele. I like the LB core. No need to get them banged up this Spring so I like the fact the younger backups will get reps. The secondary should be fine. Too me #3 Ofe was overated but he came up with some big ints. Joe Manning the transfer from Fla State had already started sitting Ofe down a bit towards the end of the season. Manning, Williams, Bell, and Akinwale will be fine. Then you throw in the Wells and Wade kid and mix in some newcomers.

The next 2 years is for Pete and his staff to fugg up. It all starts with them. We have the kids.

I'm looking for a very exciting season. Heishma Northern said Zach East is trying to get one more year at PV. If it wasn't for Zach, Vince Lands would've definitely been SWAC DPOTY..

Just think MB...the SWAC could have two first-team preseason All-Americans in East and Lands (who was one of the leaders in sacks and tackles for loss in FCS)...when's the last time we had that much star power on the DEFENSIVE side of the ball. Plus, is ole boy from AAMU, the DB, coming back?

What does yardage-wise mean? Too bad that went over your head.

After saying all that, the best competition will be in the West. Any team can come out of that division. I doubt if Grambling will go undefeated like they did before losing the last game of the season.
The East is a done deal.

   Corey started to see a lot of playing time and he had a good game against JSU before getting injured and he could have played in the Bayou against GSU. That transfer RB you talking about may be Larry Thomas from USM. He didn't play last year for what reason???? ( I forgot)

You forgot about former All-State Silas Gibbs from Clinton,La, who sat out last season. :)

He left Gram? I know he initially signed with us but was ineligible. Not sure if Broadway rescinded the schollie or if the kid left on his own. We did sign 4 rb's after Broadway arrived and each of them were eligible last year. Warren and Walker played and we redshirted Spivey and Baptiste (out of Lafayette's Northside).

My frat (Signater) was his high school coach and he told me that Gibbs was a really good back. I know he was a 200pounder in high school, so I would imagine he's at least 215 or so now. He was a beast at Clinton!

I understand that you aren't good at comprehending so i'll leave it alone. :smh:

Are the vote totals for POTY released? If not, what are you basing that statement on? :scared:

I wasn't clear was I... that was my personal opinion only. Actually, it was an unfair assessment since I didn't see all the teams last year. However of the teams, I saw play (PV twice, TxSU once, GSU 4 times, SU 3 times, Alcorn twice, JSU twice, A&M twice) he was second to East in terms of my impression.

You don't believe that yourself.

I shole hope SU is returning each and every one of those starters....LOL

Certainly YOU don't believe that Su will finish 4th in the SWAC West. :smh:

I shole hope that NCAA visit goes well for you guys...LOL!

Po tp(thanks mh)

Come on MH..........I think Joe S did say Lands was second in the voting.. If not, it aint no big deal. Besides Lands, the only other cat I can think of is A&M's DB that had a good year who would have deserved it. It doesn't really matter because East won it fair and square.

Carry on.

Lands is a good pass rusher and has a good motor... Gram's soph Christian Anthony also did a good job coming in as a 1st year prop player and earning a starting spot. He made a helluva lot of TFL's and I think he lead us in sacks. He was a bit undersized last year at 6'4" 219 but with a full spring and some offseason weight room work, I hear he's having a helluva spring camp.

We have some good players in the conference...

Southern is having yet another case of myopia.

How many years have JSU posters been myopic. We have hundreds of threads to prove it. With you being the ring leader. You finally got one year right in the whole existence of TSPN and you have the nerve to call someone myopic..........hell the Mafia have that title too. Kings of TSPN Myopia.:lmao:

SU shole has a better track record since this board started than JSU has. So let's hear TP's prediction for JSU............11-0..........12-0........inevitable, unavoidable, weapons of Mass Destruction, Turn em Loose,...........talk about years of myopia. ~snicker~
