Why do we need a SWAC Championship game .....part.II

Well I think that when we find Kenn (LOL), we need to talk to him about this and then start a thread specifically about this matter.

Jafus,

I always thought that we should simply copy the SEC format, old or current, when doing the 7 game schedule. It'd be better to have one permanent opponent, so as to lessen the likelihood of unbalanced scheduling. Problem with the old SEC schedule was Ole Miss had Kentucky and Vanderbilt every year, while other school had two of the best teams in the country every year. So, one permanent is best.

TP,

I disagree with your assessment of our first game. Certainly, a loss is never acceptable to us, so in that sense, losing the first game can't be much difference. But considering how terrible last season was, a loss in the first game this season will be magnified and could possibly create an extension of last season. The fans will definitely come down on Bell. But if he were to win that game, people just might give him until the next week to come down on him. And don't think for a moment that Northwestern won't be better next year. They bring back the same players. They were young last year and had a year to play together and improve. Under the same circumstances we'd expect a better team.

Oh, and I'm down with any movement to put an end to that 9 game schedule, especially since 2 games don't count.

So what team is going to have the good fortune to be PV's permanent opponent. I am assuming that JSU and SU will choose each other and that GSU and Alcorn will choose each other but what about the others?? Give us a 4+3 and leave it alone. One of the reasons that JSU is not for the 9-game schedule is that we get good schools to play us...as can GSU and SU. The others can't. Not playing SU or Gram will not kill us if we plan accordingly. There are a lot of good teams and cities out there for us to play us in....like Chicago, St. Louis etc. We can also upgrade our schedule with one more OVC or Southland teams.

Man, nothing would be better than to come out and beat Northwestern in our first game. Running from them is going to send the wrong message. Our pride level is already down. I want a win but if my team goes out and plays a good hard game, that will be good enough for me. They should be a better team but Bell should also know what we need to beat them. We are also in a second season of a new system and we return 16 starters. Northwestern is just what we need.....arse whipping or not.
