Why are Black folks hating on Tavis Smiley?

Tavis, a committed Leftist, appeared on Meet the Press and said the Presidents comments Friday were as weak as watered down pre sweetened Kool-Aid. Ok sonata is is not a fan of the Great One. Immediately Black folks erupted on Twitter calling him some pretty vile names. Various Tavis related hash tags zoomed to the top. While I personally thought his comment was gratuitous why do Black people seem to tolerate no criticism of Obama. Is this some sort of group psychosis or something. I just don't get it.

I don't think it's that people won't accept any criticism of Obama, Tavis Smiley and Cornel West are simply annoying.

These two guys thought they were more important than they are. They thought they should have had more access and influence on the President than they do and have been mad and bitter about it since they learned the truth. They thought that Obama was going to be a Black President who would push a Black agenda and they would have major influence. It hasn't worked out that way and they are bitter. I told y'all from the start that Barack Obama was not going to be The President of Black People. He was going to be and is The President of the United States.

I think people are just sick of Tavis Smiley, Cornel West and their hurt feelings. These guys have no one but themselves to blame for their arrogance and misconceptions.

Black people started taking bites out of Smiley's azz when he lost his mind covering the election of 2008. He still bitter about all those feet that got inserted into his rectum. You can criticize OBAMA and I don't know why people keep that garbage lie about you can't going.

Just like with the bigots, it is what you say and how you say it. Sort of like when Jessie Jackson said he wanted to cut Obamas nuts off during the election because they saw Hillaries chances in 2008 slipping away as for the nomination. People tore off into his azz and those idiot congressmen from South Carolina after that also.

Tavis and Cornell made a decision to be critics of Obama during his first term so this is just more of the same crap out of those two.

Because Black people dont want to admit they have been played by Obama and the only thing they got out of their vote was racial pride and a good feeling. That is fine for middle class and educated Blacks who feel they have "made it". That symbolism is their cherry on top so to speak. That is why the T. Martin killing is hitting them so hard and has them so obscessed, ignoring their local community, because it shows what America STILL thinks of them.

Cornell has been a critic of every president who presided over times when the rich got richer and the poor got poorer. Most Blacks didnt know or didnt care because they were politically unaware and ignorant. Cornell was one of the few prominent Blacks who called out Clinton on selling out the working and middle classes and the poor to the bankers. The repeal of Glass Steagel led to the housing bubble, subsequent collapse and too big to fail. All of which was planned to transfer wealth from taxpayers to bankers. And the policies of all the subsequent presidents have further that trend. But most of the Black folks talking bad about Cornell dont have the knowledge to speak on those issues.

THIS right here...

They are only annoying because folks dont like what they are doing. Is Cornell more annoying now that he was for previous presidents when we also celebrated him as a top Black scholar, social critic and commentator?

Cornell West has never been more prominent than he is now. He may have been this scholar but in much smaller circles...he wasn't widely known until he got on the anti Big O bandwagon IMO.

Here's the thing...while you might be correct in stating that Cornel has been doing this for years and the difference now is Black folks were ignorant in the past and are now involved in politics b/c of Obama, blah, blah, blah...it doesn't matter.

Folks make comments like, "black folks don't like when someone criticizes Obama"...but the same can be said in reverse, "black folks don't like when someone defends Obama". I like who I like...and I don't like Corney or Tavis. President Obama is no way perfect nor one of the better Presidents we've had in office. But They have come off as bytches ever since President Obama did not give them the attention they desired. I've read their articles, blogs, commentaries, etc. and tried to understand their point but I just don't agree with what they are saying.

I've attended their panel discussions...they were embarassing. Sad. :smh:

IMO...they are causing MORE problems for what they claim to love so much (the black community) than helping. Just my opinion. Just recently in regards to President Obama's statements about Trayvon Martin, Cornel called him the "Global George Zimmerman" b/c of the killings of kids in other countries while he's been President. Guess what?! I don't care about the killings of kids in other Countries. So guess what...I think Cornel West should STFU. Get it?!

Doesn't matter if I've been following them for 20 years or if I've been following them for 20 days. What they are SAYING now...I don't agree with.

They wanted the attention...and they are getting it. Unfortunately they look like baffoons.

Nothing wrong with people not accepting their narrative, but acting like this is just because of Obama is a flat out lie. Cornell talked about Bush like he had two tails. LOL That is my issue. Folks want them to shut up because they are fans of Obama, but most are too ignorant to know these are things Cornell has been saying.

Now when folks want to send Jesse, Al, Marc Murial etc to speak to the next president on behalf of doing something for the Black community, he ought to laugh in their face. If we didnt ask the Black one to do anything, why would a white one.

Not sure I agree with that in that he has been on national shows and things like Bill Maher for a long time. I think now more than ever, they are kinda on on the outside looking in because a lot of the liberal shows and hosts really dont want them.

Can't ride with it...at no time has West or Smiley been this vocal about a previous president. Now they acting a donk. The Big O can't say "Shh" and they screaming the muddafugger lying! :smh: As the ancestors say, "These fools all up in their own way. Ain't nobody gonna listen how they coming at folks." and that where they have found themselves...outcasts amongst their own from their own doings. And some will say folks don't like uncomfortable truths...but I say, make sure you are willing to show ALL THE FACTS when you want to skew things down your side of the road. You can't scream black unity...but when things don't go your way, all of sudden its phugg unity. West and Smiley please take a row of seats...

And he had zero impact in the black community. No one knew him...he was tap dancing to the wrong audience...

West was in the Matrix and other movies. Definitely had crossed over into the mainstream. How many academic social critics were known in the Black community? LOL So he was tap dancing? I read some of his books my sophomore year at FAMU in 1993 and he was part of our informal discussions on race when friends discussed the issues of the day. I think your comments speak more to the lack of intellectual veracity of the Black community than his previous work. My mother made me watch shows like Meet the Press and McNeil Lerher as a child. How many adults did I meet who did not watch those shows till Obama was running? Quite a few and now they are full fledged political pundits.

When folks defend Pharoh more than his critics, but yet are on the bottom of every socio economic measure, something is pathologically wrong with that group.

I work at a university...he isn't promoted highly as anything...:noidea:...Again, small scale until the Big O protests. Just because other race folks knew him...that made him a big deal in your opinion?

In Cliff's defense. Cornell West has been a mainstream black intellectual since the early 90's. He wrote Race Matters back in 1994. He did go after Bush like a dog. I also do feel that black people are overly sensitive to anyone who doesn't kiss the ring when it comes to Obama but that is a symptom on a bigger problem. The black community in general suffers from a bad case of group think and anyone who dare steps outside of that groupthink circle is dubbed a sell out.

No Pops, the black community suffers from tear a black down syndrome. It happens in the work place, family, marriage and anything where we percieve one is doing better then us. House slave vs field slave. Educated vs uneducated. Pwc vs hbcu. Hood vs suburbs.

It suffers from both Cee. I think that is a symptom of a larger pattern of group think. I have a classmate who decided to basically become an urban model and I see so many sisters just talk about her like a dog. Its her life, if that is the dream she wants to pursue, I support her. Go for it. I have friends who are registered republicans and some blacks consider them sell-outs just for being in the GOP. We attack each other viciously for daring to be different.

What does that mean? Mainstream Black intellectual? To me it means he's been talking shit for twenty years and hasn't gotten anything accomplished because he's on the outside looking in. He and Tavis thought they would finally have a chance to be relevant when Barack Obama was elected and are mad because it hasn't happened. They are still on the outside looking in and still are not getting anything accomplished other than being bitter and attacking Barack Obama.

I tuned Tavis Smiley and Cornel West out during Barack's first campaign when Tavis came up with a list of "demands" that he had for Barack Obama. I knew they were out of touch with reality then and had no clue how to really influence and shape political policy. Tavis Smiley and Cornel West have never been in a position to demand anything from any sitting President. Barack Obama ignored these arrogant and pompous fools and they have been mad ever since.

Being a "mainstream Black intellectual" is meaningless if you're not smart enough to get access. If you're not smart enough to know that making "demands" on the man and constantly attacking him are not the keys to the kingdom. Not only do you not get access, but you also alienate the very people you claim to be fighting for. Because your efforts are not just unproductive, they are counterproductive as well. Then you find yourself sitting even more outside because now you don't have the support of the people either.

You would think an "intellectual" would be able to figure that out. These guys are not intellectuals though. They are shit-talking pompous asses who haven't gotten anything accomplished. If that's all that's required to be a "Black intellectual", then I'm a Black intellectual too.

In actuality what they are doing by their actions is to put our President in harms way by their statements. Cornel said Obama was a baby killer by conducting over 200 drone attacks in the middle-east. Everyone is aware of the fact that Al Qaeda need to be eliminated. Those who harbor or hide terrorist already know what the consequences will be.
