Whut states produce the best athletes?

KuntriBoy

Down South Outlaw
From whut i i be hearing, alot of people say..

Texas
Michigan
California
Georgia
Carolinas
Florida

Basically u can just say that the North really is the best producers of athletes.... Because northern teams are better than Southern teams... Football wise and Basketball wise...
I dont kno bout Track and Field.. but i cant doubt it

I SAY FLORIDA , MISSISSIPPI AND ALABAMA. IN FOOTBALL. THE NORTH HAS THE BEST BASKETBALL ATHLETES. FLORIDA HAS GOOD WEATHER ALL YEAR ROUND WHICH GIVES THEM AN ADVANTAGE ON OTHER STATES BECAUSE THEY GET TO PLAY FOOTBALL YEAR ROUND. AS OTHER STATES CAN ONLY PLAY IN THE FALL.

What makes you come to that conclusion? Football is not that big of a sport in the North, nor the Mid-West for that matter.

Football:

It's a toss up between Texas, Florida, and California, it's ironic that these 3 states pump money into high school football, and because of population.

LA, MS, AL, GA, and SC, you could call this a toss up as well, especially LA, MS, and AL, the state populations are not the largest, but it's tough to argue against the quality of the football player that come from these 3.

Then you have the Pennsylvania, and Ohio boys, they're not the fastest of players, but they know the game, and extremely physical.

Basketball:

I think I will list cities instead of states, because unlike football, it seems that your big high school basketball talent comes from urban areas.

Overall, I think the best basketball players come from the NYC area, to say it's frigid up there in the winter that area has produced, and continues to produce some major talent.

I would then add LA, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Oakland, and on a smaller scale Jackson, Flint, St. Louis, DC, Portland, and some of those Ohio cities.

North, having better football talent than the south? Kuntri boy get out of the sticks a little more.

NICE

Based on reports in recent years, Texas and Cali produce the most athletes which in turn raises the level of compition. Because of the way you asked this question, this is the best answer. I agree with D-Nice on the basketball issue though, it's inner-city guys who rise "ABOVE THE RIM" over the others, but only because of the level of compition.

Texas in football simply because we have more high schools. UT is lucky, they get the best out of Texas, then the other colleges can have the rest.

As for basketball, you want a good point guard, go to the east coast, somewhere where it is cold. Why, because with the heavy winds, those kids are forced to go to the rim and create shots.

You want a shooter, go to te NorthEast, or NorthWest.

You want someone athletic, go to the South/Southeast.

I realize that this topic refers to the "current" production of athletes rather than the "historical" production, but I can't help but point out the fact that the greatest athletes in the world always seem to hail from The Great State of Alabama.

Athletes like . . .

Jesse Owens - Oak Hill

Joe Louis - Florence

Carl Lewis - Birmingham

Vonetta Flowers - Birmingham

Willie Mays - Fairfield (Birmingham)

Hank Aaron - Mobile

Bo Jackson - McCalla

Bart Starr - Montgomery

Ken Stabler - Mobile

Satchel Paige - Mt. Meigs (Montgomery)

What other state comes close to matching that line-up of native sons (& daughter)?

Add Buck Buchanan to the list of Alabama-born sports legends above.

Junious "Buck" Buchanan

Born September 10, 1939, Birmingham, Alabama. Following a standout career at Grambling University where he became an All-American, this 6'7" 280 lb. tackle became the first round draft choice of the Kansas City Chiefs, then in the American Football League, where he played his entire 12 year career. He became an instant star in this league making the all AFL team six consecutive years. In 1970 when the AFL and NFL merged, Buck became a star in the established league as well, and played in the Pro Bowl three times. He played in two Super Bowls, the first one ever played in 1967 losing to Green Bay, and in 1970 winning the championship as Kansas City beat Minnesota. Buck resided in Kansas City. He passed away July 16, 1992.

and . . . .

John Stallworth

Born July 15, 1952 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Attended Alabama A&M and set records for career receptions and single game receptions. First Alabama A&M player to participate in the Senior Bowl. Played 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League. Twice named MVP of the Steelers and in 1982 he was named to their All Time Team. He holds virtually every Steeler pass reception record for single season and career. Played in eight league championship games and in four Super Bowls. The Steelers were Super Bowl Champions in all four: 1975, 1976, 1979 and 1980. Outstanding business and civic leader. He now resides in Brownsboro, Alabama.

best athletes

The south puts out the best football players period. MS, AL,LA, GA,TN,AR and FL. Those are the states with some good football player. Also Texas is a good place to get quality players. The south is beginning to produce good basketball players. The eastcoast, midwest and westcoast produce good basketball players. The south also has a good number of baseball players because we have some many little league programs. The south also has a lot of good track and field athletes.

You people in Louisaina must have a different breed of country folk than we have in Georgia. Nobody from Ga., Al. or Fl. would ever say that the best football players come from the north. You don't see schools from the south actively recruiting up north but you do find recruiters from the Big Ten schools making their homes in southern states in January. As for track; if you need speed you will find it in the south and California.

Overall, the best athletes come from the south particularly Fla. Course, there's always gonna be exceptions but you can bet even they have southern roots.
