Clowney . . .

Only if they play Michigan every week. Seriously, I love Clowney, but he won have enough touches, or big time plays to win the Heisman strictly on defense.

By the way, don't limit your choices to the ones I posted. List others if you think they're worthy. Some say AJ McCarron will win it . . .

Clowney is getting the early buzz and is the "preseason" favorite. However, everyone know that Johnny "Football" came out of the abyss to claim the honor. Hence, we will see how this plays out as the season progresses. The Heisman can be captured in big games. Don't sleep on sleepers that can come out of Georgia, Florida and LSU. If the stars are aligned correctly with the caliber of schedules these programs have, someone that stands out dramatically will not be denied....Let's be honest, who actually knew who was Johnny Football at the beginning of last season? Perhaps a few from folks from Texas.......

Not to sidetrack the discussion, but people remember the highlight, but by and large, Michigan's line, and LT Taylor Lewan in particular, held Clowney in check for the vast majority of the game. Communication issues led to the missed blocking assignment that got Vincent Smith decapitated, but overall, it was one of Clowney's least dominant games.

In terms of the winner, considering that Mark Ingram is the only non-QB winner of the Heisman this century, the leading candidates are probably Manziel, Braxton Miller, and Mariota. They all figure to be on teams that are pretty good and they play in offenses that will allow them to compile big numbers.

If Bama continue to dominate college football McCarron will win the Heisman

Yeldon has a better shot than McCarron.

I'm not so sure about that JN99. Trust me, I'm a HUGE Yeldon fan. He's my favorite player on the team, but never underestimate (in the eyes of the Heisman voters) a 6'5' white qb on the #1 team in the nation. If it came down to Yeldon and McCarron, unless Yeldon was having a MONSTER year, the voters would give it to McCarron. Also, McCarron's a 5th year senior with THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (two as a starter) vs Yeldon who is a true sophomore. If McCarron can lead Bama to back-to-back-to-back National Championships he will win the Hesimsn (Note: I realize the Heisman is given out before the championship game, but by that time everyone will have a pretty good idea if Bama is in contention for its third straight BCS Championship).

Aaron Murray at Georgia would have a better chance than McCarron. McCarron is just a game manager. His job is to not make mistakes. McCarron doesn't strike me as a great QB, much less the best player in college football.

Just as a side note, SEC players have captured 4 out of the last 6 Heisman Trophies from 4 different programs.

Two things: #1 I've never gotten the fascination with Aaron Murray. I just don't see it. He has never impressed me, not even slightly. #2 Despite its motto, how many times has the Heisman winner truly been "the most outstanding college football player in America" over the past 25 years? Not many.

More often than not, the winner has been the qb of the best team in college football, except in those years when an outstanding talent - RG3 - Johnny Football - captured the nation's imagination . . .

They will not give it to an Alabama Qb. Most voters feel like all they do is just not fugg up. Also he will not put up major numbers like Bridgewater and others in that Bama system because Saban don't need McCarron to do that. He may have one or two games where he puts up some nice numbers but Yeldon and them damn RBs of Bama going to take away from his numbers. If Bama was a pass first team, then he would be a leading candidate. He will get some votes but not enough to overtake those Qbs who will put up monster numbers.

I actually think Bridgewater will win it. Clowney will get a lot of votes too if he has a monster year with Sacks and causes some turnovers.

Miller and the Oregon QB will be in the mix too. Manziel has to be eligible to win it again. He will miss some games I believe at the very least. Even if he don't. I still do not think he was going to repeat.

If that was the case, McCarron would already have a Heisman. We know that he's never really been in the discussion though because many other QBs have been considered better each year with Aaron Murray being one of them.

Perhaps if old dumb Coach Mark would have let Murray spike the ball like he wanted to and got off those two plays on Bama, you would have "gotten the fascination" while watching Georgia in the national championship game (don't front). :emlaugh:

Sure, and If the field was 95 yards long, instead of 100 . . .

And JR, Bama's offense is gonna shock a lot of people this year. Mark my word. They will still pound the rock, but look for McCarron and the best receiving corp in college football to sling it around a little this year.

Deuce, don't act like Murray and Georgia didn't have you shaking as much as a living goat in a deep freezer. :emlaugh:

McCarron stats do not support that assessment.

First, you don't get extra credit for past championships. I personally don't share the perception that McCarron is just a game manager, but that is his perception nonetheless. He was already a championship QB last year who led the nation in QB efficiency, and he didn't finish in the top 10. He'll have another good year, but like JR said, he doesn't play in an offense that will feature him to an extent to make him a viable candidate.

In order for Clowney to win the Heisman, he would have to have close to 20 sacks.

Manziel, regardless of how well he plays, will not win the Heisman because of this tulmultuous offseason.

Look for Marcus Mariota at Oregon. He had a great 2012.

3 that will be in NewYork for the presentation

1 Braxton Miller....OhioState
2 Tajh Boyd..Clemson
3. AJ McCerron...with his momma and girlfriend

He may throw more than other Alabama QBs. But he will not have the opportunity to put up 35 TD numbers like a Tebow did or a Cam Newton. Plus he can't run either. So he will not have an edge on them Dual Threat Qbs. He has too many weapons on offense for him to just shine over these QBs that will be slinging it all over the place and also running the ball too. I like McCarron. But unless everyone else have a really down year passing the ball. His numbers will not be good enough even with those good WRs to deal with what Bridgewater, Miller or Mariota at Oregon will do. Those guys will throw it more and they will have lesser defenses to contend with to put up the monster numbers and style points.

Man I forgot about Tahj Boyd. Yep you shole right about him. McCarron may get there just to look at the girlfriend. LOL.

My top 5 is

Bridgewater
B Miller
Clowney
Boyd
McCarron

Mariota is my wild card depending on what he does. Also be on the look out for that Stanford Qb. If they have a huge year and he puts up numbers he could sneak in.

Manziel (only if he is eligible and puts up the numbers)
