Moore, 30, was due to make $3.8 million in salary and bonuses this year, including a $500,000 roster bonus due this month.

He has two years remaining on his contract. By releasing him, the Saints will save at least $2.5 million against this year's salary cap -- and possibly the full $3.8 million if they designate his release as a post-June 1 move.

The Saints have parted ways with some longtime veteran players this offseason while carving out cap space. In February, they released former defensive stalwarts Will Smith, Jonathan Vilma, Roman Harper and Jabari Greer.

I think the Saints want a younger team period....

They're going to soon need a quarterback. Drew Brees is getting up there.

Exactly! They need to bring someone along who is willing to stay there like Aaron Rogers and learn the system. Johnny Football is a favorite of mine....Brees was a steal and no one expected him to be the player that he is. If Brees was retiring this year I would love to Kaep in a Saints uniform.

Uh no and HELL NO!

They need to pick up Murray or the QB out of LSU who are both coming off injuries and let them sit behind Brees a year or two.

You know good and damn well Kaep ain't coming to New Orleans. He's not a good fit for Payton's offense.

Kaep is a West Coast kind of spirit anyway being raised out there. I think he stays in SF for the duration. Otherwise I can see him in Arizona or somewhere if they have a contract issue.

LJ, you don't like either of them guys? I think Johnny Football would be great with a Coach like Sean Payton. He needs one that will get in his arse. But still wanting to throw the rock. As for Kap. He is good where he is. Doubt he wants to leave SF for New Orleans anyway. Just see him as a West Coast homer.

I don't know about Murray, his arm strength is not that great. Mettenberger would be a nice fit.
I see I'm not the only one thinking Manziel would be a great fit and our future QB. Too bad he's going to go fairly high in the draft.

I just don't want Brees to retire and we have no one in line to take his or trained under the same system. That move could set us back to the brown paper bag era.

Brees' arm strength was never that tremendous either

Folks haven't learned from that Peyton Manning situation a few years ago (Curtis Painter was out of the league as soon as Peyton was released)... if you gotta vet QB you better have a viable young back up ready to go.

My team (Cowboys) learned the hard way last year by not having a young QB ready to go behind Romo.

I don't see any of they guys that were named coming out that can/will do anything more than what our backup isn't capable of doing.

These are good moves. Get younger and faster. Word is the Saints may be targeting a QB in the draft.

I hope so...we need someone to train under Brees...case and point look at New England . Please believe the Razorback up there is learning.

Aaron Murray may be a steal.

Not sure if I like Sproles being released but perhaps the Saints have some inside scoop that I don't know about. Mark Ingram will need to step up. He showed signs of this towards the end of last season though.........

I knew the salary cap will cripple you all, but never thought Jimmy G. would do what he did. Thank you Jimmy G!!!!!!!

SMH. @ hopefully doom and gloom folks as if this is going to help their sorry teams. Some will probably be resigned at a lower pay scale

The Saints have all stars out of lackluster players. Look at Drew Brees...no one expected him to be where he is now. Hell even Jimmy Graham.... This off season will really be interesting.
