Who will history look back on like we now look back on jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker,,, etc?
First what would be the standards by which legendary rap/HH artists will be judged? Longevity? Creativity? Innovation? Record sales? Live performance? Just plain hype $hizz dat get the crowd moving? Who knows, but those are some good ones. Along some of these lines I would have to submit the following:
LL Cool J
- you have GOT to give dis mug props for longevity. no doubt.
KRS-One
- longevity somewhat, but just when it comes to the essensence of rap/HH in its golden era, dis mug just can't be left out. This mug was coming HARD with deep messages, but his stuff had you out on the floor too.
Ice Cube
- innovation and exploiting a particular point and time in the history of the country,, but this mug was bring some serious lyrics also.
A Tribe Called Quest
- innovation but wish they had a little more longevity. unfortunately they came at a time when the thing was to bust out on your own after 2 or 3 good albums with a group.
Many others for consideration, but these are starts.
