Who Agrees with the Odums Philosophy Relative to Transfers?

Perhaps Fobbs is just a better coach than Odums.
Odums defensive schemes have been atrocious at times.
His offense is usually decent but he still can't field a decent defensive scheme, especially against out of conference opponents.

I do agree that our defense isn't where it needs to be, but statistically improved from 2016 to 2017.

Can you make the argument all of our defense schemes suck against out of conference opponents because the majority of our schools are playing FBS schools in nonconference?

Odums needs to focus on Southern more than he focuses on Grambling. He mentioned the transfer debate in November but its very ironic, he has more transfers coming in this season or Southern fans were lying about the transfers coming in, go figure.
He said it himself that he doesn't worry about what other schools are doing, he's only focused on what Southern does. Y'all are forgetting that the Advocate reporter is the one writing the article and asking him the questions.

TBH, The Advocate guy asked him twice in about eight months about it. Worm doesn't talk about Grambling until BC week or someone directly asks him. In both cases, it was The Advocate dude bringing it up in the run-up to Classic and Media Day.

Yes, the WR from Minnesota (who we offered coming out of high school) and the JUCO QB (who was supposed to sign with Southern coming out of high school) are in the fold. It's not like the floodgates are opening.

Now if you want to hear Worm moan and bitch, ask him about facilities LOL

What is your baseline on working?

Ok, how many SWAC games between Fobbs and Odums would lead the winner to be in the SWAC Championship? Which coach won? What is the record?

If we are to compare coaches we should definitely examine their head to head competition as well as overall. Presently, in both of their initial four years Fobbs has dominated the SWAC. Odums can not make that argument. In a 4 year period Is it 3-1 Fobbs.

Forget working that is intangible and not able to be truly measured because first you have to define “working”.

You're right ... scoreboard doesn't lie and Fobbs is doing the damned thing. Let's not act like Worm is Johnny Thomas at Alcorn. LOL

Southern wasn't supposed to dominate anyone under Worm, thanks to those sanctions. Like I said before, we understood what was going on. Now that we're out from the sanctions, Worm has two tries to get to the Celebration Bowl left on his contract. Remember this, Worm was a Broussard hire and coach Banks is about 30 months out from making the biggest decision as Southern's AD when it comes time to discuss Worm's future.

Also, if Fobbs keeps this up, will an FBS team make him an offer he can't refuse or is he such a Grambling man that he will not leave and continue his thing? Gallot coming aboard as school president is a huge step in the right direction, and hopefully the stability in the president's office and AD office at Grambling will allow for continued success.

I understand the logic of Fobbs' methods. He had to strike hard and fast. I just wish Kincaid didn't get hurt against Arizona.
I also understand Worm's rationale to build and develop for a chance of sustained runs and consistency.

The stronger Grambling/Southern/Jackson/Alcorn/PV/etc are collectively ... the better for the conference as a whole.

I did not read all the threads but would it be fair to define transfers for the sake of this discussion. I would think that a JUCO even though a transfer would be different than a FBS transfer. I do appreciate the balance of brining in the JUCOs to balance things out. Now the FBS is a different animal. Some are good but most are running from something and it does impact your APR Index if they do not graduate. After that last semester playing football they drop out to get ready to the draft or FA.

NCAA doesn't punish a school for players leaving early for the pros

@Herbert77060 my bad. I was on my phone and my Google Chrome kept crashing. But you're right. The more teams that are competitive, the better for the conference (and its member schools' bottom lines).

Lets be clear, the NCAA reduction in time was for the turnover rate than happened when Fobbs first came, after Dougs second stint. It's all about winning and Fobbs wants to win, Odums just hating and making excuses.
Nope this is for the 2016-17 season. Fobbs took over in the 2014-15 season. That turnover would happen within the first 2 years, wouldn't it?

Your statements proves one thing.....that GSU people are logical thinking individuals who don't mind disagreeing. I'm not agreeing with you but I'm glad you disagreed.

You know how we get down. The respect factor counts. I was one for the boycott and believe that it helped us get to where we are today. One thing we all agreed one is the fact that winning was the only medicine to cure the family’s problem.

Anyway, after I just finished some fun SU bashing and sparring with Jrock (who I do respect), I do side with Odums on this one. I bashed him and the SU staff for poor coaching in big games, but Odums is a damn good recruiter. There is no way SU should have reminded a major player in the SWAC while facing sanctions, but smart recruiting kept them in the mix. This year, Odums is in damn good position to win a SWAC title this year or even next year based on his way of recruiting. I hope it doesn’t happen because I am hoping we drop 50 on these powderpuff jersey wearing fools, but we have to be ready. The Jags are extremely hungry for a win in their second home. Fobbs must spoil the party!

2kool I believe you may have misunderstood what I was implying or I did not explain it well. What I'm referring too is a player transfers from a FBS to FCS their senior year and once the 1st semester ends they do not enroll the second semester. That is a drop out not a player leaving for the league based on the NCAA guidelines.

Coach Odums states he feels good about what he has. He also state the he has the depth he hasn't had since coaching @ S.U....we'll see what happens.

I personally think Odums is a good coach.

Fobbs is a Grambling man. No one can be more passionate about explaining our rich and storied legacy like a Coach Rob protege. Listen to the G-Men (e.g. Kincade, Chad Williams, Christmas, Martez, etc.) when they are interviewed and how they embrace the aura and mystique of Icon Gram.

Transfer or incoming freshman - Fobbs instills the Grambling legacy and pride in the G-Men. This is a huge intangible those not close to the program do not understand. The “G” is recognized from from the Atlantic shores of Maine to the Hawaiian archipelago. Our brand instills pride in itself.

Grambling is an Icon and because of our indelible standing and blueprint for success we will continue to attract key transfers and big time talent from the high school ranks. Watch out for our youngsters out of the high school ranks, which will be the foundation of our next wave of SWAC titles.
Dude, this isn't the 1960's through '80's. You're overstating who Grambling is in this time and era.
Within an already weak SWAC, Grambling might be "great" but outside the conference, that remains to be seen.

Odums approach works for him
Fobbs approach works for him
If you pay attention to Fobbs recruiting classes, the caliber of high school athletes signing with Grambling is getting better each year. That’s the goal of Fobbs system, to keep winning with transfers until we attract best high school players.

From looking at that roster and what’s coming in, I can easily see why he is fired up.

Yeah, I want to go on a streak of beating other FCS foe. If our QB situation is fine, we should beat Northwestern State again this year. The Arizona fight gave me hope that Fobbs has the juice to beat a weak FBS, but that Tulane beating really doesn’t sit well with me. ULL is another winnable FBS game, but it’s going to be rough for us breaking in a new QB and OC.

To answer the OP's question, I think a good percentage of transfers is somewhere around 10% - 15% of a roster.

The better FCS teams do a good job attracting transfer talent without overdoing it. I know for my Aggies, transfers from FBS and FCS schools filled in and play important roles on both sides of the ball.

Kincaid had the most impact of transfers on Grambling team. The other guys should've been in the conference from the start, they were good players but not a stand out talent from everybody else like Kincaid. Kincaid was on a hole other level talent from everybody in the conference.
So because "he had the most impact" he was the only transfer that did something? Wow!

I think y’all forget SU has been on crippling probation. Now we are off. Let’s see what happens from here on out. SU is loaded with depth.

It is going to be interesting.

So should Odums be granted another contract since many SU folks are using the crippling probation as a reason why SU has not won as many championships?

To me that is what is being said....since his contract is up next year...should the school renew it based on the APR infraction punishments.

I do believe it will be tougher in the coming future to get the FBS transfers because of the new redshirt rule. May still get the ones that may want to leave for some other reason but not the ones FCS are getting currently.

I believe they should take that in consideration. Coach O has endured more with less the last couple of years. Driving to high school stadiums to practice football, no spring practice, and restrictions. These 2 years is going to tell you alot about him.
