Whites In JSU et al HBCU Bands

Specifically i am curious about JSU.

  1. Has there ever been a white Tigerette (or whatever they are called) at JSU?
  2. Has there ever been a white drum major at JSU?
  3. I'm sure there has been a white JSU band member so i won't ask.

In general, has there ever been white dancing whatevers at SU et al HBCUs? Just curious. (the rest is not for the band forum, but in general) I mean who were the first whites to "integrate" HBCU bands, athletics, schools for that matter?
 



Check out the SU web site an look at the ladies on the sports team. Brown skinned all the way but let them tell it there are no cute dark skinned ladies on the campus just all brown bag specials.
 
If my memory serves me correct, there has never been a white JaySette, nor has there been a white DM.....

Now, there have been some whites who came to band camp, but I'm not sure if any of them ever 'MADE' the band...

And I don't think Danny (Frosty Nacho) considers himself white, does he??

I don't think many SWAC bands have caught on to su's white-boy gig just yet.
They had to be the first to let massuh's grandson get his own gig on national television. Or maybe he was just real light skinned? Let su tell it, they'll say he was light skinned.
su......massuh's got them wayyy ahead of their time.

seriously, to me this is an interesting question. black folk have managed to infiltrate every white institution, i'm just curious if white people have infiltrated some of ours, like black college bands. i mean, i just can't picture a pinktoe as a JaySette,,, if so, dat would have to be one BAD pinktoe mentally and physically,,, but hey, prolly was a lot of necks in the 50s and 60s saying the same thing about the thought of blacks at white institutions.

Ya'll have been reduced to Dancing Doll smack........beyond _ _ _!!

While ya'll are on that subject, it looks like the Strip...eh I mean J-Settes are getting lighter every year.......wonder why? Leave it to the Xerox boom of the south to copy something.
 
Danny sure doesn't consider himself to be Black, he considers himself to be what he is I suspect...Mexican/Latin American...

C'mon Tmade, u know i'm a full-blooded Latin.....crabbed and everything :nod: ....we also have a Puerto Rican on tuba......and fall '04 we had a white boy on trumpet....

Psycho stop posting on threads about JSU. The J settes are all colors and have always been that way. They have their own style and it sure isn't that shiat the dolls do:vomit:. They look good but the dancing is suspect at best and the mime like gloves must go.

Do you play marches, do you have 5 drum majors, do you have twirlers(get rid of the dude leave the two young ladies. I think the ans is no so where do we copy you? Do we have capes no, do we mimic your dances or stand performaces no.

We have our own style with our own classic songs and traditions. You can say it until you're blue in the face but SU is not the beggining and the end of Bands and all bands have up and down years even SU.

Get a Life and stop hating dude. You know the dolls have a bag test look at the sponser. You can't tell me that all those dark sister and brothers on campus the color of Doc and you find 15 flawless light skinned girls. We all know the deal.

1. Yes we play at least 7 marches every year
2. No we don't have 5 DM's (All we need is one to house out)
3. Yes at one time we had a National Champion twirler (that eventually played out)
4. We didn't always have capes


Stop trying to justify the FACT that Jstank is guilty of being a Xerox band. The fact of the matter is many of your "traditions" came from other HBCU bands. The Dolls are different shades of brown. You should know because you prolly have a sticky picture of them......

Not the kid look at the avitar and I don't have sticky picture of no broads I can get whatever I want from the real thing.

Check the sites and see how many people watch JSU and the J settes. J settes have spawned an entire youtube fad. I don't like it but hey to each it's own but the j-settes are simply better and popular. The DD are good to look at.

And all bands have taken things from others and made them popular so try again.

Just keep sucking on your bands tips and I will continue to love the Boom.

Dude I'd be here posting clips all day if I were to look up the Dolls on Youtube. The only thing the J-Settes are popular for is having male impersonators. Jstank has been on our tip since who knows when. SU helped mold your band.....thats a FACT.

You're right some bands have taken things from others but some are notorious for doing it (BCC, Morris Brown, JSU)

Check it out for yourself. Marching Network and youtube. Like I said think what you want and continue to think you are flawless. Everyone trys to match your power but that's it. Like you I will not change my mind and I been around the Swac all my life. And I saw BCC last show this year and it smoked anything SU did all year and I didn't see them copy a single thing from SU.

This is true. When Dowell Taylor took over as JSU's band director, SU was the band Taylor copied. Taylor copied the best and JSU became the best during Taylor's tenure.

This statement is broad and indicates that before years were not the best. If you don't know....don't assume.



Anyhoo....there were Philipinos in the Band when I was there.

To get back on the topic, GSU currently has a caucasian in the band, his name is Mancel. He plays Tenor Sax and he's my frat bro. (KKPsi). I don't know if hes the first or not.

Of course we had the white tiger. I cant remember his name but there was a movie about him being the first white to play football at GSU and during my era there was another white QB named Cornbleau from NY

We had a head DM who was from Venesela (sp.) and he was my line brother in K Psi.

Once apon a time there were two Japanise girls on flag, but I don't think they were there long at all.
