White enrollment grows at historic black colleges

We live in an increasingly more diverse world. You say ain't **** changed. That's stupid. Kinda describes you. :shame:

For one you backward UNEXPOSED KNEEGROW, I've grew up in a diverse enviroment, so that its nothing new for ME! Don't pass judgement on situations the YOU are VERY unfamiliar with. This "I am new to other races" mentality is normally the downfall of people like yourself progression into the "real" society. It has been beyond me to grasp the concept of the people who have been beatin' up the most by master but still run to his defense. Sound like a bunch of battered women. Sad. The more you talk the more obvious it becomes that your lack of experience with other cultures has been pretty much non-existent.

That explains a lot.

See Mr. Neck, I'm trying to be nice about this issue. Just becasue you don't agree with someone else's pespective doesn't mean you have to make derogatior comments as sad and shame on you. The only reason why I am so outspoken to this issue is become some people don't understand that the term "HBCU" is perceived and valued differently in other regions of the country amongst the races. I would elaborate, but I am going to let the simpleness of some get the best of them because I know that they don't have a clue to what I'm talking about. My point is that this defeatest mentality has to go. If schools are not going to stick to their mission statement, the whole idea of this HBCU foundation has to rebuilt and cater to everyone and call it a day. Some people are just SENSATIVE when they can't dicern between perspective and opinion.

You learn from the past, yes, but you spend your whole life staring at it and dwelling on it, you will miss your future. Use your future to create change for the better, not stare at what's behind you, or you will be like Lot's wife in the Bible, frozen in time.
PROFOUND! Now, let me go. Massa wants me to do a salary analysis report real quick & I don't wanna get no beating.

Why are you picking various parts of my posts to create a new thought? I never called you stupid. I did say it would be stupid for us to fight for them to change, and then for us to stay the same. That is hypocritical. I did say that you were stuck in the past. That I did say.

Unexposed, wrong again. You say I'm making assumptions then you turn around and do the same thing. Despite what you may think I did grow up in a diverse environment and have been exposed to many different cultures and people. So for you to assume that I am unfamiliar with any races or cultures and then turn around and say I shouldn't assume is as hypocritical as black folks fighting for change and then staying the same ourselves.

Running to master's defense? That's funny. What I see is this...you can't defend your points of view so you have to try to belittle me, or try to call me names, or make it seem like I'm "unknowing". The truth is you can't defend anything you are saying and that is why no one on this board is agreeing with you.

I sound like a battered wife. That's silly. What I am is a real Black man that has been taught by other real Black men to be secure in myself and reliant upon myself and to be strong enough to believe and achieve by myself. Not to blame "whitey" for everything that goes wrong in my life or to allow anybody black or white to stop me. Defending massa, try again bruh. What I don't do is hide behind the past to justify any shortcomings that I may have myself. That "real" society that you speak of is not all-black. You won't be coddled and hugged everytime something doesn't go your way. Society is changing and has changed. Does it have a long way to go? Yep. To say ain't **** changed has you in denial. For you to say that makes it seem that you haven't been exposed to too much.

Point blank........................you made some silly, racist statements and you can't defend them. If a white person had said what you said, you would call them a racist.

Like I said, you don't have a clue because you have not addressed a d@m thing I've said, which is cool. You've just proved my point on perspective. Thats one of the beautiful things I discovered while in undergrad that being exposed to black folks from other areas, that we all are not the same. Thats WHY I let most of your comments slide. Notice I didn't reference anyone's comments as silly, sad, or shameful as other folks until I was provoked. With that being the case, if you were the so called "black man" you claim to be, you would no better than to reference anyone's comments no matter sex or race as not being to your standards. Sounds like someone needs to be coddled or appeased.

KNEEGROW, who in da h@ll you calling ignorant. You don't NO sh@t about the enviroment I grew up in. I already had diversity. If I WANTED to go to college with WHITE PEOPLE, I would have went to Southern or Northern Illinois. I wouldn't have hopped my happy azz in my car and drove 750 miles one way to attend college with black ignant folks as yourself. Just shake my head sometimes. My comment earlier was not in reference to the civil rights movement, but slavery. No, its a shame when black folks FORGET, how much of the enemy WHITE FOLKS is. Always be screaming that desegregation "whitey" is our friend. And out of all people, you all should know better. Yaw know slaves STILL swinging from trees. Ain't sh@t changed. But oh well. I guess we just that desperate to increase enrollment. Let them enjoy the amenities that we didn't have. Well they build up our institutions to attract them anyway because they know we will accept anything.
It's not really the idea of trying to increase enrollment but to keep your school competitive. Yes we all want our enrollments up but we want to money, programs, and facilities to support them. If you are going to live and work under white america politics, then there is some bending that has to be done. Fair, H@ll no it's not but need YES. If it wasn't for Alcorn, JSU, and Valley changing their admission standards, adding minority scholarship, along with other things that have been implemented into the programs we would all be sitting in that same sad state of the previous decades. Only after making those changes have we started to receive fundings that we would not have even ask for 10 years ago. It's not like we are selling out we are buying in. And even though we have minorities on our campus, We are and always will be true to our roots. Remember the HBCU's were set aside for blacks but didn't discriminate against other races to start with so why would we do it now. That would make us no better than the Ole Miss's of the 1960's.

Speaking of, I saw this black dude yesterday at this sports bar wearing a hooded "Ole MIss" sweater and t-shirt. Some folks really don't know no better.

Enlighten me NT. While at the U of Ill, I encountered many angry black students. They were always fighting this or protesting that. Why is this? I thought the North was "free" long before the South. What are they angry about?

Dude you have to be the dumbest person that I have ever heard. Maybe he's an Alum of Ole Miss has someone attending to school from his family.

OK, lets review. You said I forgot what they did to us. I gave you my own history and some of our history. I told you what I both knew and learned. But I didn't address a damn thing you said. You said, and I quote,

"HBCUs are for us. I don't want to see anyone else there. Serves no purpose for our race."

I said that was an ignorant statement. And in my opinion it is. It is your opinion and you entitled to it, but it is an ignorant statement. I addressed in very lengthy terms why HBCU's have to adapt for the future and addressed how they have been doing so and why they shouldn't be afraid of change. But I didn't address a damn thing you said.

And I don't need you to let any comments I make slide. Jump on them if you feel froggy. I stand on my two feet and behind any statement I make. I will defend my opinions with facts that I know and opinions that I feel.

If you feel like we provoked you an any way I apologize. But I stand behind what I said. Those were some racist, ignant azz statements. Don't get mad because what you said was met with disdain and disagreement. If you feel strongly about them, go ahead feel free to debate. That's what I did. I made my point, backed it with facts and my opinions. You still dipping and dodging.

I addressed you points...........(1) I told you why HBCUs shouldn't try to close the door on anybody. (2) I told you why I haven't forgot the past but I believe in moving forward, and (3) I told you why we as black people shouldn't let the "real" society, as you called it, stop us from trying to achieve more.

What else do you need me to address?

As for your last quote,

"With that being the case, if you were the so called "black man" you claim to be, you would no better than to reference anyone's comments no matter sex or race as not being to your standards. Sounds like someone needs to be coddled or appeased"

There you go again defining what a "black man" should be and how they should act. First I was an "UNEXPOSED KNEEGROW" because I didn't agree with you, now you are telling me that as a real "black man", I would know better than to do this and to do that.......................whatever! Like Ced the Entertainer said, "I'm a grown azz man." I do and will continue to speak my mind if I feel like it.

I said I was a "real" black man raised by "real" black men. One thing they did teach was to be honest and call a spade a spade if need be. Even if it offends someone.

Never said your comments were not up to my standards, I said they were ignorant, better yet ignant. I have made ignorant comments in my lifetime, and I'm sure as have everyone on this board, but don't get all huffy and start swelling you chest up just because people point out that your comments and how little sense they make. For as long as you have been arguing your point, no one has agreed with you so far. I'm sure some people do though.

For one, when we attend universities as such, we know that whatever extra curricular activities that exist are not for us. Admissions may have been open to us long before tanks entered Oxford MS., but we always knew that we were not wanted. Because you are being barely tolerated doesn't mean that you are welcomed.

But in general, we know how white people iz and we (they) never forget. If we get a hook-up from a white person, its considered a plus because its never expected. I guess you can say at a young age, we learned that the only time they will tolerate you is when it can benefit them economically. Outside of that, you are not wanted unless they love the novelty of your presence. I wouldn't say that we think we are free, there are just more educational and economic opppurtunities available to us if you are willing to put in the work. To sum it up, what does a white person from Chicago (and the rest of white america) call Michael Jordan? A NIKKA! That fight with the fans in Auburn Hills popped off for a reason.

But I will say this, if a white person in the north likes you, because you did something to earn their respct (I'm not saying that our goal in life is to appease them). Not just to pity you because of slavery. They just about money "And THATS IT".

Boy I bet he was pissed of like a mutha when Duece McAlister donated that $1 million dollars to Ole Miss. As many black people go to Ole Miss and he thinks they won't by school affiliated stuff.

But let him tell it, everyone has missed what he is saying.

I'm still confused. Why the preoccupation w/"how" they feel about "us?" For me, get what you need & keep climbing. I guess, in some instances, I just KNOW it's about the GAME & move on. In my humble opinion, it seems like some ARE free but just don't KNOW it. Some, I've dealt w/act like they're still on the plantation & the man is sipping tea on the porch w/his rifle on his lap. It's sort of like being a prisoner of one's mind. I guess I just don't understand.

See, that's how I know ya'll bogus. Can't respect know one else's perspective for sh@t. How did you all become the experts on race relations "ALL OF A SUDDEN". I ain't called out nobody on their level of intelligence just exposue. But that word dumb just keeps finding its way into everyone's post. This is about learning from each other experience's not bashing someone's opinions. If you don't understand, just ask. Its not a preoccupation. It's functioning in the enviroment.

Oh Lord! The fella is reaching. Now he's dragging Michael Jordan and a basketball fight into the picture. So what if a some white people think Michael Jordan, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Michael Vick, Magic Johnson and so on and so on are nothing more than a nikka. But they will call them a rich, powerful nikka. The battle for civil rights was not about hearts and minds and feelings, it was about laws and institutions and rights. Before the 50s and 60s you couldn't do mostly anything by law. You couldn't vote, you couldn't hold certain jobs, you didn't have certain rights, and for all intents and purposes you were not a complete citizen. No matter how much "whitey" may hate you, by law you have all of the rights and priveliges of every other citizen. Is that saying everything is perfect yet, no. But it is a hell of a lot better. You talking about people mad because they don't feel "welcome". I'm talking about my grandfather fighting in WWII and coming home only to still be called a ***** and struggle to find good jobs, I'm talking about the KKK burning crosses on my grandmothers yard, I'm talking about my father being at JSU around the time of the Gibbs-Green incident. I don't give a damn about feeling welcome. I feel paid. Pay me. Give me an opportunity to make a better life for myself and my family. I got that. I have run into "corporate racism" and roadblocks. But I keep moving and I keep moving up. Why, because I don't stop or quit.

And you are really reaching to blame a NBA brawl on racism. Come on now. Some of the fans in the stands that got the best blows in were black. There were black fans fighting black players, but thats racism. Rrrrrrrreeeeeaaaaaaccccchhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggggg!

That is NO comparison...you act like Ole Miss is lynching black folks on the Grove or something. It is an institution of higher learning. I cannot fault one for representing his/her alma mater. Get a grip!

You said,

"By the way, on my Ole Miss comment, if its cool for him to wear the nalia' we might as well start wearing rebel flag t-shirts."

Bruh, Ole Miss been banned the Rebel Flag. Now does that mean the good Ole' boys don't have their flags still, no. But the university stopped that a while back. Ole Miss has come a long way, just like Mississippi State. Mississippi state already has a black football coach, Ole Miss a black basketball coach, and has a black candidate in its 3 semifinalist to be the head football coach. If he gets hired that means Mississippi would have 2 of the 4 black head football coaches out of almost 120 D-1A football programs. Whether you can admit it or not, times have changed a lot, even hear in Mississippi. There was a time when you wouldn't even have black players on these teams. Now you talking about coaches. Ross Barnett and Bear Bryant are turning over in their graves.

Oh Lawd! I gots to get off da intanet. Massa is comin' wit da strap agin! I sholl hope he ain't comin fa me Lawd!

I'm trying to understand this fixation with Ole Miss?

If Ole Miss offers you a scholarship, what is the problem? Should I not attend them because I am black. Somebody please explain.

My brother received a full scholarship to Ole Miss and he graduated. Does he wear their 'nalia'? No, he doesn't. But his education was paid in full. That's all that matters.

Question....Why is there a Black Student Union organization on HBCU's? I've never been able to figure that one out.

jaydog....man, I didn't know you were that deep!

You people win. Especially my man who has to quote "Cedric the Entertainer" to make a point. I guess you want to be referred to as "Luscious" as well. You a grown azz man right? Its just obvious that folks aren't open to another point of view. By the way, everybody has had slaves in their family and men that have fought in every war that has waged against this nation since a certain individual wants to hang their hat on this fact.

But since we are just a bunch of know it all Poindexters, explain to me in your best narrow minded passing judgement attitude why if everything is so d@m beautiful in the progressive enviroment that you all reside in was painted red during the last presidential election. All yaw Ole Miss jersey wearin', they just got rid of the flag five years ago(at the most), 2 Mac giving money to a school that don't need it that Bush won yaw 2-4 electorial votes (nickel and dime in the big picture of things). I believe that this rascist area that I grew up in was painted blue at 12 noon. Their votes were based on economics which is at the root of the point that I have been trying to get across. But some folks are so caught up on their NEW found freedom that it went over their heads. Like I said before, economics has always played a large roll in my race relations, not master.

Because you have some people, rich and poor who agree with war and believe Bush did the right thing. But, what goes on in the voting booth is a private matter.

NT, why are you so angry? Do you honestly believe people are proud of what happened years ago and today. BUT, it is up to us to make it better for the next generation just as it was done for us.

There's no comparison man. Just because a person wears an Ole Miss t-shirt doesn't mean the he represents the racial oppressed state during that time because that school once was that way. He represents the new and progressively moving school that is trying very hard to stay away from under the label as Racist. The Prez and AD at the school were even criticized by hundred of their strong financial alums because they no longer have the colonel as their mascot. If they weren't trying to correct some of the wrongs done, then I would be the first to support you in the arguement. We owe them the chance to get it right.
