Where is Southern playing Jackson State in 2004? New Orleans or Baton Rogue?

If you don't like Memorial, STAY home. I don't like Mumford, so until it was in the Dome, I only saw the game every OTHER year. Not being ugly, just a suggestion...

And BTW, I was able to get a 20 oz Diet coke at the game also...vendors are independent of the stadium and JSU, so the menus will vary.

JSU fans, do me a favor and keep your comments to yourself about stadium maintenance until you get a stadium of your own and have to find room in your budget to maintain it.

Why, so we can move the SU game back to Memorial like yall move the JSU game to the Dome?

:smh:

This just goes to show that people really are
only going to see things their own personal way.
Democrats will be democrats and Republicans will be Republicans
no matter how wrong each of them are.
Why would any one from Southern (of all places) EVER complain
about any accommodations at anyone's else's stadium for ANY reason is beyond me.
Why would you do that?
I just don't understand.
When people call you on your lack of accommodating fans, your answer
is "well that's the way it is in Mumford so deal with it."
You can come to Memorial, get the best seat in the house (cause there are
no bad seats) enjoy the game and go home.
You cant even get to a concession stand at Mumford...damn a diet coke, can a
brotha get a regular Coke....not if you actually want to see any of the game.

SS

I know you are mad cause you didn't get your Coke
But please please please sweep around your own front door....
There is a lot of trash over the hump.

To everyone else....SS is not the only person from SU
that thinks Memorial is crappy. This is how THEY think. No matter how
bad and deteriorating and dilapidated Mumford is...no matter how rude
the fans are, SU folks think the world of Mumford and everyone else has a problem.
Never mind the fact that Mumford is far behind Spinks, PB, Crews, Robinson, and Rice Totten
when it comes to on campus stadiums.

and momof2. It doesn't do you any good to have a stadium if you cant maintain it.

I'm not gonna argue with someone who comes to the stadium once every other year, if that......

And after years of not having anywhere to piss at Mumford, you got a lot of nerves to make any complaint about Mumford.

Robber, your last JSU game in Mumford was in 1998, but your last visit was in 2000 and you had prime accomodations. You and GR sit on the home side with good seat so stop your no where to "p" nonsense. And sense your last visit we have upgrade the pressbox, playing field, and more. The Mumford you visited in 1998 in no more. But if you piss me off you still will have to seat in the endzone and piss there.

Now back to the subject matter at hand. My recommendation to the A.D. will be if we have to play a game in Shreveport why not move the JSU game there until the improvement are complete to the stadium and play it earlier for those who will want to travel back to Jackson or Baton Rouge after the game is over. Short of that bring them to Mumford and upgrade the port of potties.

Seeing Spots,

There is not a single post you can make that will make me upset. Not one. I'm just confused how you could complain about anything in Jackson considering the crap every other fan puts up with at Mumford. I never said I liked the gate situation. I pointed out that it ain't just an SU thang, like you trying to make it. EVERYBODY goes through those same gates.

Talk about the pot calling a white kettle black.

Bg,

Dude no matter what you post or how you post it, Mumford has always been the least accomodating stadium to fans.

Get Ready,

You shole is right. Some folk got a lot of nerves, don't they???

Get Ready: I never said Confederate Stadium was crappy. You are a liar. I said the phugging gates are not opened early enough and THIS year no Diet Coke was sold on the visitor side.

Robber: How am I precluded from complaining about the gates not being opened early enough because you can't find an opened bathroom in Mumford Stadium and because you are forced to sit in the endzone? I freely acknowledge that you have a right to complain that you have to hold your pee until you get back to the hotel and that you have to sit in the endzone because most of the seats in Mumford are owned by students and season book holders, thus leaving only the endzone for visitors. I acknowledge that and RESPECT your right to complain about those two facts. Since I have for 20 years stood outside of closed gates, I complained about that. I don't like it, but since this dialog I have learned that EVERYBODY has this problem. SO IT IS NOT A SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY FANS PROBLEM.

I had no idea that the 7,000 that came to the jsu-Bama State game were left standing outside the late-opened gates for hours and I had no idea that the jsu-grambling crowd of 5,000 were left standing outside the late-opened gates for hours. And I had no idea until you told me yesterday that the EVERYBODY comes into Confederate Stadium on the visitor's side because the Home gates remain closed. Now that I know this I clearly understand that it is not a SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY FANS ONLY PROBLEM.

In that light, I beesch you to please JOIN me in getting the gates at Confederate opened for all of us. Now that it is EVERYBODY'S problem, including jstate fans, perhaps we can get it solved.

And once again I was not attacking jstate, but the management of Confederate Stadium. Taylor Made sent me some great information and said jstate has been and continues to work on this problem. You took it to a personal level and jump defensive and attacked me about how dare I have the nerve. And I think I pretty much explained, but since you, jstatetiger and get ready missed it, I have EVERY right to complain because I am a CONSUMER and I spend money and time on this project. This thread was about coming to jstate every year to play our game and I am against it for the reasons previously stated.

I would NEVER suggest that you DON'T complain about the bathrooms at Mumford and endzone seatings. You all have a right to complain about the condition of Mumford and you are vested with that right the moment you purchase a ticket. I GET TO HAVE THE SAME RIGHT!

To that other jsu person: Sorry I cannot take your suggestion NOT to come to Confederate Stadium. I am going to come every year that SU-JSU game is played there. But thank ya hea?

I am vehemently opposed to that idea. The Confederate Stadium is not accomodating for Southern University fans. I have been to every SU-JSU game in Jackson since 1977 and the same problems exist EACH time:

Now can you list ALL the problems that JSU fans face in B.R........... not to mention your stadium is not big enough to hold all the people comming.

No dammit I can't, YOU DO IT! You really need help articulating what you problems you face? NOT ME! :D:D:D

YOU SUFFER IN MUMFORD, YOU HAVE A RIGHT AS A CONSUMER TO COMPLAIN, YOU LIST THEM!

That's exactly what I did! :D :D :D

Or you can do like that other person, and not ever come to Mumford! That's an option also. I, however, don't choose to avail myself of that one! :smh:

People .................. there are only 2 gates open for all games on the east side of the stadium........... FOR ALL GAMES ................NOT JUST SU. Everybody that enters on that side have to go through these gates.

It's not like Mumford is better for us. 2000 tickets when 20k to 25k wants to come. Don't talk like SU is problem free. It's far from it .............. Personally I quit comming because of the cramped space and gunfire............... no smack because you know I'm telling the truth.

Dude ............... all ya'll do is complain about JSU this and JSU that. I would rather play in a 60,000 seat state owned stadium for free, JSU PAYS NO RENT, than play in a cramped shoebox, acting like it's the best thing in the world.

People ............. git off it. Confederate or whatever people with nothing new to say want to call it is better than any of your on campus stadiums. WHEN WE NEED AN ON CAMPUS STADIUM, WE WILL BUILD ONE. He!! ................. ya'll can't even maintain the small one's you got.

Not enough seats ..............We are working on expanding the size of Mumford and in 5-7 years there should be more seats. There are definitely not enough seats in Mumford Stadium!!!

Not enough parking ............ For a small 30k stadium ........... Parking is very much an issue, not only on game day, but for students, faculty and staff during the week. Parking is even tougher on game day throughout campus because they stopped people from parking near the 100 year old oaks. They did however open up the lots behind SU Lab which added about 100 more spots. To get a great park, you have to come early. Parking on game day is a pain in the ass! I purchase a season parking VIP pass so I don't have that problem.

Not enough concession stands ....................Two years ago they added two extra free standing concession areas (now there are four on both sides) on both sides and two stands that only sell drinks, two that sell only lemondae and two that sell only pizza. But the best hot sausage po boy in the world is sold exclusively at Mumford and there will always be a BIG line! There are two concession stands in the endzone section. Yep there are definitely NOT enough concession stands!

1 dang entrance to that place ....................Not true. Let's count the entrances to Mumford Stadium (more than one has existed since the stadium was first built, about 4-5 were added after the addition in the early 80s)-3 on the east side, 3 on the west side, two in the south endzone, two in the north endzone, 2 to the Skyboxes, 2 for personnel only now I am no mathematician but that surely adds up to more than 1 dang entrance to Mumford Stadium. And they are opened to fans at 3 hours before kickoff on game day for. Now it just occurred to me that perhaps you meant 1 dang entrance to the campus of Southern University, and that's not true either: Harding Boulevard, Swan Street, Mills Road, that makes 3 entrances to the campus.

the scoreboard never works ............. Although I heard ya'll got a new one .............................:D You won't ever see it, but what you heard is true. It is state of the art and broadcast the entire game! And it is not true that the old scoreboard never worked.

Not enough security ...............................I will pass this concern on the BR campus administration. You haven't been lately, but there is more officers since your last visit and this year the Constable's Office sent 30 officers on bicycles to SU games. 2 years ago after the 9/11 tragedies, State troopers were added to the force of Campus Police, Baton Rouge City police and EBR Parish Sheriffs. There is definitely a need for greater security and for ambulance coverage too.

Do I stop now or keep going. PLEASE, Keep going if you have more? I want to be able to articulate the problems jstate fans experience to the powers to be and I promise to do that for you guys. Can you please return the favor and get the gates opened earlier? I'll bring a diet Coke for my dad, so don't worry about that!
:( :p

Now see was that difficult? But wow, I know you are glad you don't have any of these to worry about!

You said that jstate needed 20,000 tickets for the game but you were never coming because of safety issues, so I said that was good to know and subtracted YOU out of the count. I never said Southern sent more than 2,500 tickets to jstate.

I am VERY capable of expressing myself!!! :D

This might be helpful somewhere 'round hea. I don't mind saying it, 'cause it's basically public knowledge, and certainly nothing to keep 'in house' or anything......

But...

Part of the problem with the Stadium Manager (Matt Whatley) is that the ticket-taking is contracted out each year. And Matt sets the 'time-frame' where bids can be accepted. And since 1970, the Jackson Rotary Club has taken tickets. And their 'contract' calls for them to be 'in place' at the gates only 2 hours before game time....

I'd like to see some other non-profit groups take tickets, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing some of 'us' taking tickets. But the Stadium Manager has sole discretion when setting 'gate times'. And it's funny, when they had the BOTB in Jackson back in September, the gates were opened 3 hours before it started, but they're only opened 2 hours before JSU games. So there's something 'deliberate' going on.....

We need a new Stadium Manager........ I wonder how much the job pays???

Paid for by the 'TMade for Stadium Manager' Campaign, thank you for your support......

:dude:

SS,

What would be an adequate amount of time for the gates to be opened before the game?

I realize that you only have experiences with the SU game, but do you think that your time should be general or on an as needed basis? (For example 4 hours for SU because of 60K people, 1 hr for PV 17K people)

Other than the gates and the Diet Coke issue, was your experience satisfactory?

Thanks so much for your very intelligent, non-sacrastic, legitimate questions:

Other than those two issue Bengal E, it was a stone gas baby, as per usual!!! We love the trip over to Jackson!!! This year was unusual because I was suffering with a migraine so we left the hotel late and didn't tailgate this year. By the time we got there the lots in the stadium were LOCKED DOWN. We had to park down the street by a restuarant down the street, Que Sera Sera, and ate there after the game. I don't have a complaint about that because we did not get there early enough to park in the stadium lots. I know that is the nature of the beast that is SU-JSU games.

My experience is always MORE than satisfactory with the one exception...they don't open the gates early enough for the size of the crowd. And us I think because of the size of the crowd there should be more than 2 gates and that they should be opened 4 hours before kickoff. Now when Bama State and Grambling bring that little bitty crowd, let them march on in with their bands, but you see how many we bring each year. It is non-sensical to have 10,000s of 1,000s of us standing outside until an hour before the game. I missed the Boom marching in and I look forward to that each time. We always go in and get seated early, to watch the team warm up, get situated in our seats and then Confederate seats are general admission, not reserved so that is the REAL REASON we come early so we can get a good seat.

You know the Jaguar Nation comes in big numbers to Jackson, right? Hell in 2001, there were 32,000 plus in a THUNDERSTORM, remember? That is how great the JSU-SU game is because both our two schools really follow/support our teams. It is most disconcerting to stand for HOURS at the gates and can't get in. The FACT is that it happens EVERY TIME, EVERY YEAR! And I have it from other people's first hand experience that gates are in fact opened on the home side. And I know from my own personal experience that EVERYONE of the 60,000 do not enter from the visitor side.

On to the Diet Coke issue, there were NO vendors selling Diet Coke on the visitors side on October 18, 2003. Not the beginning of the game (prior to kickoff), not during the 1st quarter, not during the 2nd quarter, not during the 3rd quarter, not during the 4th quarter, not after the game. There were 2 main concessionaries with no Diet Coke and one Pizza concessionary with no Diet Coke and another concession stand with chicken on the stick, etc. and they had no Diet Coke. As I have said 3-4 times early on this thread, we will bring our own Diet Coke in to Confederate Stadium. We have health issues that REQUIRE Diet Coke and that is not any of your problems. We will bring it with us! Sure as hell don't want anyone to provide a simple service such as this. Hope that settles that issue because I sure as hell didn't know folks draws where going to be bunched up like this.

Thank you for not being so sensitive and defensive and take my complaints against the stadium you do not own and have no control over as an attack on jstate. Can you take this message to the Confederate Stadium Commission and help a sister out?

And when you come to Mumford, I will GUARANTEE you a good seat and my son will take you to the bathroom!!! :D

And thanks to Taylor Made. Let me know WHEN I can contribute to that campaign fund!

GR, Rob

This is sad. Now you see why I dont argue with women or jags. I wish I could go to Mudford one time and my biggest problem was selection of Coke or Diet coke, and whether the pizza man had pepperoni or sausage. The nerve of some people. Hell Pete's mug is so sour on the sidelines that he could suck the sweet out of a coca-cola classic.

You let negroes come sit in a stadium that is clean, kept up, and has proper security, and they start think it is the Four Seasons hotel or Le Parker Meridien and they are supposed to have everything their way.

I could care less if JSU gets one seat. We play them on their home field. They need to play us on our home field. SU/JSU is a special and energized game. Everyone says it just ain't the same in the dome. You mentioned the larger attendance. Now subtract all of the expenses that comes with that trip to NOs. (buses for band and football team, transportation for the SGA, administration and all of their hook-ups, transportation for cheerleaders, mascot and other supportive personnel, meals for all of the above, cost of the superdome rental, hotel expenses, etc... This isn't a sponsored game, so the expenses come off any profit that you earn. Besides, how many games, outside of Bayou Classic, have we won in the Superdome? Look at it how you wish, but the only advantage I see in playing in NOs against JSU is to make JSU more comfortable. Since when do we care how comfortable our opponents are? Especially enough to put ourselves in more uncomfortable conditions that being at home?

SMH!!!

Finally, don't you get tired of New Orleans raping you with their expensive hotels. They get my money once a year. JSU is the most important game to me yearly, but I'll never pay New Orleans funds for JSU and GSU. So, SU sells 4 less tickets anytime they go to New Orleans for JSU. Period!

It doesn't make since to me to give up your home field advantage to make your opponent happy. So, I want support that logic or lack of logic.

Peace!!!
