Where is Southern playing Jackson State in 2004? New Orleans or Baton Rogue?

I say make the game a "Classic" and play it in Jackson the third weekend in October every year.

JSU vs SU Game

AD stated on the radio that SU has two more years on the superdome contract to play in New Orleans. He stated that the game draws over 30,00 plus and if the game was played in Baton Rouge they would not be able to accommodate the JSU fans.

If I remember correctly he stated the first JSU/SU game in the superdome drew over 49,00 and the second drew around 37,00.

It's no way that game can be played in Baton Rouge and accommodate the crowd.

I am vehemently opposed to that idea. The Confederate Stadium is not accomodating for Southern University fans. I have been to every SU-JSU game in Jackson since 1977 and the same problems exist EACH time:

1. Never more than 3 gates opened only 1-1 1/2 hours before kickoff. 2. Will call ticket booth opened only 1 hour before kickoff. 3. Inadequate concessions, including no Diet Coke. (How is that no Diet Coke is sold in a stadium with 60,000 people who are disportionately affected by diabetes? )

We are tired of the BS. If this is proposed, I will use my power and influence to make sure no way in hell we have to go to Jackson every year to be subjected to that ignorance.

Other than the stadium issue, it is a great trip and big fun every year.

I was able to get a Diet Coke and it only took me 15 mins to get into the gate... :D

Hmm....... that's interesting. I heard some rumors that Shreveport may be an option. That would be the only game that would do well in Shreveport. So that would be my preference if BR can't have it. The Dome just takes away from the SU-JSU atmosphere. It ain't the same.

PRINTING Toi's post right now!

So they sell Diet Coke on the home side and PURPOSELY NOT on the visitor's side? I already knew they opened EVERY PHUGGING gate on the home side. :smh: @ the obvious INTENT to make us miserable and feel unwelcomed by blatant use of disparate treatment.

Thanks for that info! I will add it to my writ of mandamus! :redhot:

Everybody enters on the same side. There are no gates open for entrance on the home side of Memorial Stadium. So, whatever problems you have getting in, we have too.

But it kills me to hear someone from SU talk about how unaccomodating Memorial is when Mumford is the least accomodating stadium that JSU has ever gone too. Y'all get plenty of seats to sit in in Jackson, whereas we get a few seats in the endzone in Baton Rouge. I wish our only problem was getting a diet coke.

Anyway, as for the game, I am surprised to read that this game will be played in N.O. next year. And I'm happy, too. Now I know I can actually get in and have a good seat.

:smh: at someone from SU complaining about Memorial.

Robber that just isn't true, I have personally gone to several games in Jackson and walked over to the home side where the entirely allotment of entrances were open and only two sometimes one gate only being open on the vistor's side.

This isn't anything new and has been going on for years and our adm. have talked to J-state about it before and were told that they could do nothing about it because the city control the stadium.

You can shake your head all you want the fact remains that it is awful for Southern fans at Confederate Stadium. Your stadium is 3 times the size of ours so that's why there are limited seats. Your complaint is that there are not enough seats in Mumford and you can't sit on the 50 and are relegated to endzone seats? Season bookholders sit on the East side Robber. I have 8 seats on the 50 yardline and I am unwilling to give them up to visitors, sorry.

And don't die because this Southernite is complaining about the gates not being opened and no Diet Coke. The gates not being opened issue has been so FROM MY PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE since 19 hundred and 77. Until you just made that statment in your post I had no idea that jstate people all entered from the visitor side ALSO. So that is really ignorant!!!! You mean that there are no gates opened on the home side and that EVERYONE all 60,000 of us came into the game on the visitors side? Interesting, I can only rely on what other Southernites say who just gave up years ago trying to get in on the visitor's side. Every year, including October 18, 2003 they went in on the *gasp* HOME side and walked all the way around to the visitor side OR they just sat on the home side. I don't have PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE of this fact, because for nearly 20 years, I have endured standing outside of closed gates that don't open until 1-1 1/2 before the kickoff.

Now since it is homicidal for you to believe that a Southernite is saying that Confederate Stadium is NOT accomodating for visitors, maybe you will believe Toi, who I believe is a jstate alum and was at the game this year, stated above that she got in the game in 15 minutes and drank a Diet Coke. Is she lying?

And furthermore, this is only an issue for Southernites, not these other people y'all host at Confederate seeing as the game before and the game after the number of people attending could have marched in with the bands.

BTW, I want to play in a larger venue than Mumford for the SU-JSU game too, so we can all have GOOD SEATS and so we can all GET IN THE GAME. NOT EVERY year in friggin' Confederate either.

And I pray you never HAVE to drink Diet Coke either!

When the rest of the Stadium renovations are finished (2005), there will be only one main gate on the home side (just like on the visitor's side). I don't like the 'gate' situation on the visitor's side either, but I understand why they're doing it that way.... It's easier to control 'flow' by having peopl go through one or two gates, as opposed to having 14-16 gates, how we used to have. It'll also help in our fight to ensure 'accurate attendance'....... Only two gates to 'monitor'.....Yanno?

And the city has absolutely no operational control over the Stadium. The Stadium is run by the Stadium Commission. Not the City of Jackson......

:(

Robber is correct there is only one gate open. We were all at the game together, I walked in with Robber. The tailgate section is on the vistors side so the entrance that you walk in is the same one that we walk in. Now about the Diet Coke the only thing I can say is that maybe some stands sells items that other stands don't.

I hated the gate situation also.... It was making folks mad then you know when Black folks get mad, they get RUDE.... *****s was pushing like we all werent going to get in. I felt like I was in a line waiting to get in a club. I am not a big guy so I was being SQUSHED.... Then they checkin everybodys purse... FOR WHAT???? Its a damn football game. They need to take notes from the crew at Legion Field.

About the Diet Coke thing.......

Why would anyone want a Diet Coke??? After stuffing your face with Domino's Pizza, hot dogs, Chicken-on-a-Stick, and nachos with jalapenos and extra cheese........what good does a DIET Coke do?????

:smh:

Robber is correct about what? That gates are not open on the home side? He did not say one gate was opened on the visitor side (hell, I knew that) he said that there are NO gates opened on the home side and that EVERYONE comes in on the visitor side.

What time did you and Robber walk in on the visitor's side? Did you sit on the visitor's side?

You know what Toi, I don't want to argue with you, Robber or anyone else from jstate about the gates not being open at Confederate because I don't have to. It is FACT derived from my own personal knowledge since before y'all were born. What I had hoped was that you would value the sheer number of visitors from THIS game and THIS game only, how much money you guys make from THIS game and THIS game only and if not in the spirit of friendship, certainly in the spirit of making money that you would HELP us at least address, if not remedy this problem.

I have been very vocal about the fact that jstate fans can't some to Mumford in their record numbers because our stadium is too small. We thought the Superdome would be cool, but it's just not the same game day presence for both schools. Also, the Superdome belongs to the Bayou Classic, really. I have heard suggestions that we play at LSU or maybe in Shreveport. But we don't want to come to Confederate EVERY year with the problem of getting into the game. And you know we come and we LOVE it in Jackson, but it is a pain in the ass for us.

I have friends who are jstate alums and NOT on TSPN and they have FOR YEARS complained WITH us. Not act like ninny babies, cop attitudes and DENY that the problem exist. Now let me

I want EVERYBODY to come to the SU-JSU game that wants to and every odd year WE do, however coming every year is too much and we aren't going to do that.

Hey I was born in 1976

Correct about that...

I understand that getting into the game can be a headache, but if Taylor-Made'90 the gate issue should be cleared up in the next couple of years.

So unless they make the game a classic and move it to Hawaii (for my sake :)) we are stuck with the same issue for the next two years.

But serious, I don't care where we play the game, cause I will be there rain, sleet or snow.

Seeing Spots,

I'm not gonna argue with someone who comes to the stadium once every other year, if that.

As for you not being able to get a diet coke, maybe you shoulda looked harder. I'm sure someone was selling diet coke over there. And after years of not having anywhere to piss at Mumford, you got a lot of nerves to make any complaint about Mumford.

If that Robber, if that? Didn't you read where I said I have been there EVERY year for the SU-JSU game since 1977?

And you are right I do have a lot of nerves and time and money to drive over to Jackson for a great game. That gives me all the right to speak on this subject. How am I barred because you cannot go to the bathrooms at Mumford. BTW, I have no idea why you cannot pee in Mumford. Every home game my son goes to the bathroom in the stadium. Now that's on the east side, maybe you sit on the west side and all the bathrooms are shut down over there. I haven't been on the west side since I graduated. The only problem with bathrooms on the east side are the women's bathroom because there is always a line. Just like in most public places, it's in and out for men and a wait for women.

Why are you getting so sensitive about the criticism of the stadium gates not being opened? Why get pissed off with me personally instead of acknowledging that the situation with the gates not being opened is not good. I am not attacking you and your school but rather the people who own it and manage it. I have said these things for many years. We love coming to Jackson and I know you don't believe this but I actually have very good friends who are jstate alums and live in Jackson. They tailgate with us and are also pissed about the gates. You shouldn't take this like you got to defend jstate. We offered to pay $5 more per ticket to pay for more gate attendees or pay more for parking in the lot to defray the cost of opening the stadium up and avoiding the miserable situation.

I come every game and I have a right to complain. You come every time and there are no bathrooms opened for men where you sit and you have a right to complain. I have never said that wasn't a dayum shame! Hell, I wouldn't come somewhere and end up not being able to pee. What the hell do you do?

I will be there for the SU-JSU game in 2005, just like I have for nearly 20 years and I apologize for even saying anything about the gates. It was not an attack on you personally or Jackson State. And I know now to sneak in a Diet Coke for my father.

Taylor Made pmmed me and ACKNOWLEDGED that there is a problem with the gates and jstaters are working and have been working on it and have been working on it and he offered me VIP parking in 2005. And if jstate plays in Mumford, you can sit in Section 7E, Rows 19 and 20, 4 seats on each row, back to back, take your pick. You will have a good seat (they are on the 50) and Trey will take you to the bathroom. I want you to have a good time in Mumford!

I cant believe the jags have opened their mouths once again to speak on discomfort at someones stadium. What about all the crud I have to scrape off my shoes in BR? What about the fact that I have to wait until I get back to my hotel room to use the bathroom in BR? What about the way eldery jags will have bootleg tickets and sit in your seats and curse Miss JSU out over the seat? What about shooting a gun off in a stadium with 30000 people that are disporportionately affected by getting shot?

Yall dont wanna hear me you just wanna dance....

Seeing Spots I guess because he's lying about no bathrooms being open for men so he figure we gotta get back by lying about the gates.

Why would anyone take a great selling game and turn it over to promoters? I don't get this one... Please explain.
