No way in hell states like Louisiana and Mississippi should go red in the election and both states should at least have two to three African American Congressional Districts.

I knew a few years back that Metro Atlanta was going to catch up with Chicago's black population.

Some of you are just using downright ridiculous logic lol. The state of GA has almost 10 million people....3 million of which are African American. That's less than a third yet you say Georgia shouldn't have been red in the election. *facepalm* And the majority of that is either in or right around Atlanta. Blacks aren't the majority anywhere in GA other than the city of Atlanta so no, Georgia wasn't expected to be blue and likely won't be for quite a while. Same for Louisiana and Mississippi. Having a high number of blacks doesnt = majority. And we all know the non black non hispanic southerners AREN'T voting democrat so...ho are they supposed to be red? IF that happens it'll only be because of the increase of the hispanic population. People don't seem to realize that the only reason FL goes blue is because of the massive amount of northern and westerners that choose to retire there otherwise they'd be red just like GA.

If Barack Obama got over 95% of the African American vote and Georgia is 30% Black, all he would have needed was 20% to 25% of other groups vote and not everybody that voted for Barack Obama was Black. And that's logical facts. Also, Barack Obama carried nearly 65% of the Hispanic vote. And according to the statistical data, Blacks are only 33.6% in the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is not a majority. There are 30.02% of Blacks in Georgia, which says Blacks are in other areas in Georgia. Seems like someone is typing stuff just to see themselves type.

States like California, Wisconsin, Washington, Massachusetts has less than 10% of African American population and somehow those states were blue by a large popular margin, but the logic about states with over 30% AFrican American population turning blue is downright ridiculous. I guess we are back to the same old southern knee-grow mentality, "Black folks vote won't make a difference".

Folks are leaving Chicago and then there is not the great migration to the North like it was back in the day.

White folks in states like Cali, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Washington have different mentalities than those in the South also. They are more liberal socially. Mass is where the Kennedy's came to power and had a black Senator back in the day and now have a black Gov in Deval Patrick. But Boston might be one of the most racist cities in the Northeast.

Now Ga may be that way so I can see what you are saying. But Ms has blacks all through the state. Pretty much no where in the state where we we are not. What folks don't take in consideration is that not all the folks counted in that census is able to vote. Kids and Convicts can't vote. So that number is not really the ones who can vote.

I'm sure they do, but you can't tell me 80% to 85% of White folks in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia voted for Mitt Romney, which includes White women and gay men. There's very little polling data from those states due to the fact neither candidate spent much time in any of those states.

Georgia has 30.02% of Blacks state wide, so there are Blacks in other parts of Geogria other than Atlanta. Atlanta MSA for Blacks is 33.6%

I have a few reasons why that may be the case. One is gerrymandering. Ohio and Pennsylvania have the vast majority of their Congressional districts in GOP hands though those states went for the president. Alabama and Georgia in my opinion suffered from gerrymandering when it came to reducing Black voter influence in those states.

On those states being red states:
The democrats have ignored the south despite the numbers of Blacks and Latinos in south and southwest. I think that they are waiting until the majority of voters are Black, Asian and Latino in Texas before they pay attention to it. I guess they are waiting on Georgia too. Another reason for the election results last week is that some folks are not voting. They are too lazy to do anything. I have to call it like I see it. A third reason is that some of our civil rights organizations are not what they were in years past. They are too passive or inactive.

This is true, but now that President Obama has a good chance of selecting two Supreme Court Justices in his second term, maybe the Congressional Districts can be redrawn without the Supreme Court reversing the decision, such as the district Cleo Fields represented when he was in congress. IMO, a lot of Republican Congressional members in those red southern states fear that this could happen and they would no longer have the means to reverse it. During the Reagan and Bush Era, the Republicans stacked everything in Republicans favor, now it is time to change that. All though the Democrats got more popular votes in the overall congressional race, but due to gerrymandering, the Republicans remain in control of the House and they might have a good chance to keep control after the next election cycle in two years. President Obama's campaign helped the Democrats gain more of a majority in the Senate.

Looks like they are leaving and coming to Atlanta. My last two supervisors were black and from Chicago (go figure).

JR, what he is saying is not true. There are not only cities but counties in Georgia ran by and predominately black. A lot of people talk without doing research. Examples are Savannah has a 56% black population, Augusta 55%, Valdosta 51%

Compared to Texas (25,674,681), Georgia (9,815,210) is a lot smaller, but Georgia is the 9th largest state in total population with the 3rd largest African American population. Louisiana (4,574,836) is the 25th in total population with the 10th largest African American population. Somehow Louisiana African Amerians have lost their political clot. Louisiana has more African Americans than large states like Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Like I said before, some people like to see themselves type and when he said that most Blacks in Georgia resides in Atlanta, I knew then he had that old southern mentality.
