What's up with all these non-felon young folks not voting?

chocalate_topaz

I wanna be your lover...
This shit is really starting to irritate me! I've had too many discussions with these college kids about voting. Their excuses are all about the same: It won't make a difference.

I'm like W T F? They make my blood boil...I get 4:30 hot and read them the damn riot act....

One kid was on FB with this shit, saying it's all in God's hand and voting won't matter. Now his mama works the voting polls and is always telling folks to get out and vote. I'm like O_o...where the fruck is the disconnect in that household?

Anybody got any answers.

In Mississippi's case CT, it is because No matter who is President, the clown known as Phil Bryant will still be Governor.

A lot of us Black People don't realize that State Election choices impact our day to day lives much more than Presidential Elections.

I was sick to my stomach when I saw Phil Bryant basically had no competition for his 2nd Term. A damn Truck Driver, really.

I'm not voting in the presidential election because all the candidates are sorta slaw.

But, I'm down with voting in local/state elections, because those vital to the future of our communities.
You do realize the policies who ever wins President affects you and your family correct? Just because you don't have a wife and kids today doesn't mean you won't have one three years from now.

What?

Bruh I'm often joking with you but this is not one of those moments....don't insult MLK, Medgar Evers, Rev. Abernathy, and many others by not voting. I'm not sure how old your parents are but my mother is 74 and she was spat on as a young child when her dad went to vote. My father once went to vote in his military uniform because he was headed back to Ft. Polk and in a store a white man spat on him.

Man voting is important and quite frankly if you don't vote you automatically vote for the winner.

Who is the mayor, governor, senator, folks in city hall impact me a whole lot more on a daily basis than whoever El Presidente is.

What good is it to have a quality president, but a shitty governor like Jindal or a racist mayor like Emmanuel?

I care more about who are in those seats than presidential reality show candidates who I know do not serve the best interests of the people.

I'm sure I'm not insulting anyone by abstaining to vote in a presidential election filled with a field of candidates who I simply do not trust. I don't trust any of them.

And I'm not compromising voting for "the lesser of two evils" for the sake whatever fearmongering or guilt trip presented.

And who ever the president is will appoint an a attorney General who with either investigate or do nothing about the corruption on the local level so picking a president is important to the local level too.

Kendrick,

Man you are in a position to make a difference because you are in the media. Use your position to make change.

You are insulting people Kendrick. Imagine how that guy who had to take a literacy test to vote would feel about your decision.

Like I've Said Guys:

Presidential Elections and Governor Elections Should be Held in Equal Importance.

Where were all the Democratic Mississippi Folks when Phil Bryant was running for Governor?

And I'll tell this Hard Truth to Black Folks:

We Got Caught Up in the "High" of Obama being Elected President in 2008 that Nationally, we ignored the mess these conservative Governors like Jindal, Rick Perry, and others were dong in their respective Conservative States....Where it is fair to say the majority of African-Americans reside.

You just made my argument.

Go check out that 1964 Literacy test that our kinfolks had to take in Louisiana in order to register to vote. After I saw that exam, it pissed me off because I thought about my pops and mother. They were eligible to vote at the time. When I think about the elections, I think about how they were being disrespected. That's the point that Founder is trying to articulate. A damn literacy exam that students today can't even pass...

100%

It boils down to black folks not understanding and desiring to understand politics. We are too nice by nature to play the game the way it needs to be played.

And truth be told, most black folks over the age of 35 really don't want the black youth politically aware. Older black folks are just fine being on the plantation and being governed by the church and old rusted ideals from the civil rights movement. Young blacks will turn that upside down.

Back in the day blacks were required to take a literacy exam and pass it in order to vote. The test was designed for them to fail. Therefore, they could not vote. With that being known, and by you saying huh, since there was a thread posted this week about you are either playing dumb for attention or just plain ass ignorant.

By you not voting for president, or for that matter stating that you are not voting is the ultimate insult to them.

Here is the response to your "huh"

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_vaul...t_the_impossible_literacy_test_louisiana.html

The literacy test—supposedly applicable to both white and black prospective voters who couldn’t prove a certain level of education but in actuality disproportionately administered to black voters—was a classic example of one of these barriers.

Phreeze your dad and my mom are basically from the same area growing up. My fiance is from there and I see older people there with pictures of President Kennedy, MLK, and now President Obama. When I see that it tells me the importance of voting no matter who is elected. What further bothers me is that Kendrick is a journalist and should know the importance of voting as he is part of, whether he likes it or not, the political machine.
