What types of hotels do you prefer?

Yep, I like bed and breakfast hotel too. Stayed in one on the Coast Labor Day last year. I have to say...it was AWESOME.

Do you guys ever use things like hotels.com or hotwire.com. I mean, they have all kinds of places--bed/breakfast to condos to seaside villas to rent for a night or week at GOOD prices. Try them next time if you haven't.

 Same here... On my own dime, I usually do a Marriott or Hilton property because of the rewards programs those offer...But I travel ALOT with my job and they ALWAYS set me up at the finest spots, both chain and boutique... My kids get to travel with me sometimes and now them lil suckas expect 5 star hotels everytime we go somewhere. :goodbad:

Me Too!! Usually five-star on the company's dime!

I went to Atlanta last summer and stayed in The W. I think I'm spoiled now...

I like those extended stay suites with the kitchen and etc. They are usually cheap. I guess since they are made for extended stay any chance to book someone for a day or two its a nice deal.

I started with Orbitz. But I found going to the hotel web site you can get the same or at a cheaper price. In my opinion, with these Travel site they are good if you can be flexible with your itinerary. When I go on vacation, its takes me about 2 to 3 months of planning (and saving) with no flexibility. Also since you like B&Bs, Hot Springs, Ark have to be the B&B capital of the world. That’s all they have. They don’t have any 5 star hotels other than the Arlington. It kind of shocked me since it is a tourist town

I'm the same way. I book directly with the chain's website.

Man don't sleep on the Hilton rewards program. If you fly a lot then it is the way to go. You can get free nights starting with 20K points. Most of those will be at the Hampton Inn's, but it will not take long to get enough points to stay and the Hilton Garden Inn (my favorite) DoubleTree or other chains. As I stated earlier, you also get airline miles with each stay. You designate the airline your miles to go to. A 100.00 hotel stay gets you 1000 hotel points and 100 airline miles.

Don't have a preference, but they must be nice b/c I can't stand hotels...I hate sleeping in someone else's bed and on someone else's sheets...LAWD, I'm creeped out the entire time I'm there and can't wait to get back home in my own bed, on my own sheets.

I work for a 5 star hotel and have yet to stay here...

That’s 10 to 1, Hyatt only gives 5 to 1 and only at selected properties. I have yet to get 1 damn Delta mile. But the first free night is at little over 8k points at a Hyatt Place. Also it seems you have more flexibly and choices with Hilton. As I said earlier they don’t have a Hyatt everywhere. I only travel maybe 2 or 3 times out of the year so if I was traveling more I would have to do the Hilton thing. Another thing I did was to call them and make the reservation over the phone and talk to somebody in person. I told them it was special like an anniversary or birthday. I got a free $40 dinner for two that way. One year my wife and I celebrated our anniversary twice in one year.:D

They don’t make a hotel beds for sleeping. I can sleep at home

My favorite hotels have been THEhotel at Mandalay Bay in Vegas and the Hotel Solamar in San Diego. Of the chains, I like Hilton and Hyatt most. I hate Radisson.

I almost ALWAYS book my hotels through priceline for non-business trips, unless I find a good deal othewise.

I am a Hotel snob. So I prefer to stay at the better hotels out there. But I still look for good deals on them. I usually prefer the Marriott family of hotels, Hilton family of hotels, Hyatt, Inter-continental, Ritz-Carlton(when I can afford it or get a good deal), Loews, Westin, etc. Some of the boutique hotels are really nice as well.

No Motel 6, Super 8s, even some of the lower end hotels of big chains can be so bad that it makes me:vomit:

Ditto!

Man I'm in hotels at least two to three weeks a month. Sometimes 2 to 3 straight months. It depends on where I go. Chocie hotels are usually around most bases so I end up staying there. If not there it is the Marriot hotels. I have racked up on some nice gifts from both.

That statement in bold pretty much sums it up for me.  But yeah, I'm ALWAYS looking for the best deals. Even the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa has me spoiled....I refuse to stay anywhere else in da Gump. :shame: :emlaugh:

I also have a few preferred boutique hotels....The Glenn Hotel here in Atlanta is really nice. It's very sexy- like the type of hotel where you would want to have an affair. :goodbad:

But this is where we stay every MCC weekend in B'ham- and I already have my room booked for 2010: http://www.theredmont.com/

I've used hotwire.com on several occasions, always checked the area and match the stars so figure out what hotels they have available and their price.

My only hotel requirement is cleanliness and hospitality. There are certain favs for cities I travel to often...seems likely mostly Hiltons. I have stayed at two, very nice Crowne Plazas in Texas. Oh, I usually book hotels through Hotwire and packages always through Priceline. I'm in a travel club now, so that will probably change.

I love B&Bs when it's strictly relaxation.

 I heard. Trying to get to Hot Springs before football season.

Make sure you get some of that water, that’s some good stuff!

Chain (Holiday Inn, Marriott, Motel 6 etc.) or boutique?

I was brought up on the brand name chains...but I tell you, I've had more fun and better experiences with the boutique ones. They tend to small, antique-ishly furnished, with a lot of hospitality. I've stayed at the St. Anne/Marie Antoinette Hotel in NEw Orleans on two occassions. Y'all this is practically right on Bourbon street, they had valet parking and check out was 12 noon.

I am staying (for the first time, I think :noidea:) at a boutique hotel right now and I have to say that I love this fun, little place! Well it's not really that small and it is actually a Doubletree hotel, but it is described as a "boutique" hotel. It is just a really cool place! The staff (and I mean everybody) is so hospitable and really try to make your stay pleasant. If you're ever in Denver and would like a fun, boutique hotel, check out The Curtis.

I don't have anything against the brands...but I find them to be overpriced and not that hospitable. You pay for EVERYTHING including that $6 water they have a complimentary tag on in your room. :smh: Talk about pissing me off... :uzi:

Marriott! My wife and I get points each time we stay there. My wife had enough points that we were able to stay at the Marriott Spa Resort in Myrtle Beach two weeeks ago for a few days. She has a lot more points left for another hotel stay if she chooses.

I like the ones that change the sheets every two hours.
