What SWAC Marching Bands have never met at halftime within the past 15 years?

TBone2

Boom 84-89
PV vs. AAMU
PV vs. Alabama State
TXSU vs. Alabama State
JSU vs. Prairie View
Miss. Valley vs. TXSU
TXSU vs. AAMU
TXSU vs. Alcorn
PV vs. Alcorn

Correct me if I?m wrong, have the SWAC Bands listed above ever met at halftime within the past 15 years?

The last time they met was like 86 when PV went down to Jackson. We are still waiting on a return trip. (and they say we don't travel.... )

From what I heard Prof had some bad experiences in Jackson in '86. he hasn't been to eager to go back. Now I know that was almost 20 years ago, but thats prof....

A trip was in the works within the last couple of years for the Storm to go to Jackson, but the logistics could not be worked out to make it happen. But the fact remains that Jackson hasn't come to Texas to face PV since PV went there in '86. That's 17 years.......and counting.

AlSU and TxSU performed against each other at a Gulf Coast Classic I think in like 94'. I could be wrong though, but I know that is was not earlier than 92'

Part of that, and I repeat, 'PART' of the reason the Sonic Boom hasn't gone to Hempstead has been that normally during the years when it was PV's home game, was also the years when it was TexSouthern's home game. And the Boom wasn't gunna make two trips to Texas in the same season. So they normally opted to go to Houston. And besides, there were several years when the Boom didn't go to Houston either...

That's only one several reasons I've heard over the years.

:smh:

pv went to bama state in '99 and got bikini waxed!! :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
remember "we are the champions"??

alcorn came to txsu in 99

is it me or all the schools listed are Texas schools?

PV went to ASU twice and has been stood up. PV and Alcorn were this close to battling but the powers that be axed the deal for some odd reason

don't know about JSU and PV. Sometimes I wonder if the directors even communicate.

Did you wanna go to PV or something? Bikini waxed?? What are you smoking??? Bama St. was aiight, but their field show was utter gobbage, they overblew all game, and I don't think their trumpets hit the right notes all game long (remember Angel of Mine???) Well you go to TxSU, so I see that's how you like it. PV wasn't spectacular that game at all, but by no means did we get waxed. Even with only 3/5 of a band.

when you wake up PM me, and I will send you a tape !! Bikini Wax. the only reason ASU wasn't booed @ home was because they played a gospel song with a choir on the fild @ the end !! I think the only person on here that would agree with you is DAHILL

You got the wrong information about any bad experiences in Jackson. We had a great time there and they were good host. I know Prof expected a return trip from them and that never happen.

Alcorn came to PV a few years ago but because of a territial rain storm, neither got to perform.

I say we all stop holding these "well, they didn't come to us" grudges and excuses.

I can except the "no 2 trips to one state" arguement way before that grudging isht. Some of these directors need to recruit themselves from that HS level of thinking. If it's that bad.....take your band down there, and embarrass the other band infront of the home crowd, and bounce.

I agree, I mean TxSU always travel to Grambling every other year for the road games. But Grambling acts like they can't come to Houston. Why I don't know. The only reason Grambling came last year was because they had to do the Houston Texans halftime show that Sunday. But like I said, TxSU still always makes that trip even though Grambling rarely returns the favor.

LOL@Blade. You are so right about band directors shouldn't hold grudges. I guess one thing we can say about the black man, he will pay you a return trip, even if you don't come yourself.

I think alot of it has to do with the budgets the bands have to travel. If your Athletic dept/Admin doesn't help out any then its hard for most band programs to travel. Even the PWC bands have issues too. Most of them are so big that even with all the money they make at those schools during football season is enough to warrant their bands to travel to every away game.

Another reason why JSU may not have come to PV is that game has normally been on PVs campus and the vistors side can't accomodate the Boom comfortably. I mean they can fit. But it would be very uncomfortable. Not to mention when a band director is trying to get the school to pay for a trip, it better be for a game that the admin thinks is worth the band going. Meaning football wise, not band wise. They could care less about band battles. The hype/importance of the game often dictates travel.

I'm feeling JR's and Blades statements. A good way to make the other band want to come to an away game is to embarass them in their home stadium. ( ex. Famu 99 ). I really feal that Admin/budget thing though.

Interesting... his line to us has always been something about bus rocking... don't know the specifics but thats what the man said in '96. Simular reasons on why we make the SU trip.

I agree that BD's should let that return trip thing go. If that were a valid reason we would never see SU. They come every even numbered year without fail... but when was the last time we went to Baton Rouge... '87 or somthing? And thats really not that far of a trip.

Ac ouple of tidbits, I remember that Prof told us about the JSU trip was

1. Bus Rocking
2. After the band march out and was waiting to load the buses, some idiots threw food and other stuff over a fence @ the band
3. The singer @ halftime mic was cut off in the middle if the song. This was before the band brought their own sound equipment.
4. and some other stuff I cannot remember.

however, I do remember that the PVU vs JSU game in 1995 was to be moved from PV to JSU and the STORM was supposed to make the trip. However this would have interfered with TASP testing which fell on that weekend. Which affected band members as well as players !

yeah i remeber that one... they were trying to get a special TASP date for band members but the University didn't go for it.

I stepped in just to say.............

WRONG!!! :smh:

ASU played Alcorn in 1993 (on BET) and 1995. :D

Now one band we haven't met in about 15 years would be MVSU.
