What Is The Future Of The Big Easy Classic?

Southern's two year deal with Tulane ended Saturday. Tulane would love to have the Jaguars sign another contract, but should they? Are the JAGS scheduled to play McNeese next year? Looking at the way McNeese kicked our Asteroid, is there really any difference whether Southern plays Tulane or McNeese next year? And oh yes ... We will redeem ourselves next year in Grambling.

Here is the issue, SU has to play all SWAC schools beginning next year. So, that is 9 games. We can go up to 12. We will still be under contract with Northwestern. We are now in a contract with Nicholls (SMH!!!-This is not good for SU, never was and want be again). We are all but done (supposingly) with McNeese (which should be better than Nicholls, but we've already commited to Nicholls). However, it is my understanding (rumors) that a contract isn't signed. So, I would advise that we don't. Here is why.

We, both SU and FAMU, should be shame that we allowed the longest running HBCU football game to be discontinued. It is my understanding that their offers out there to bring SU/FAMU to a payday classic (like Disney). First of all, we need to play quality HBCUs like FAMU whenever we can. To heck with all of our open games being white schools. If we pick up FAMU that would be our 12th game. If we pick up McNeese, we will only have SWAC games as HBCU games and all 3 will be LA schools. That can't be to our advantage with the poll voters.

Hopefully Nicholls is only a two year contract so we can pick up Tennessee State, North Carolina A&T or Hampton, hopefully TnSU.

The schedule is competitive with that and respectable. So, the polls should become kinder to us as long as we take care of the business. I'm concerned with playing 12 game seasons, but could be the best for us in being able to schedule home games to generate revenue.

PEACE!!!

I personally hope this is the end of the Big Easy Classic. It's not about wins and losses...its about money. I know that this game is structured to provide money but what did Tulane do besides hold out their hands to get the pay check? I say let's leave this series alone and play FAMU or somebody who will bring something to the table with us. We don't need Tulane to make money and we should act like it.

I disagree, I think we should play Tulane and ditch one of the other games (Nichols, Northwestern or McNeese) THere is nothing that can compare at this time with beating a D1A, Conference USA team. And if we keep playing them, we will beat them. I don't think the risk of injury is any higher playing tulane than anyone else on our schedule.
As far as money goes, I don't think we will make close to the money over a 2 year period than we do with the Big Easy Classic.(when we go to them other schools, we don't make money) Sometimes, you can spend to much time looking at someone else's money as opposed to our own and what's good for us. Tulane has a great deal with the superdome.
I would also like to see us play FAMU again. Those other schools should come after that.

I am in favor of keeping the Tulane series. And yes, Southern could have won that ball game.

Nichols State should never be given but a 1 year contract to play in Baton Rough; take it or leave it.

McNeese: Not in favor; Scheduling limitations with 9 games SWAC schedule (albeit S.U. has appeared to give them an oral contract thus far) Maybe give them a 1 yr. contract to come to BR if they are that "gunho" about playing S.U.

FAMU: Renew series....Not every year in Orlando

NWST: End series: look for a home payday one year contract with any team that will come to the bluff and accept a nominal payout.

Who owns the name "Big Easy Classic"?

Personally, I am tired of traveling to New Orleans two and three times every year. I am in favor of SU scheduling and playing as many home games as possible on the bluff. HOME GAMES MAKE MONEY, take advantage of your ability to pack your own house. However, I don't know on many other opportunities there are of playing on the road and receiving half of the gate.

Tulane, the City of New Orleans, or another third party can seek out another opponent (such as Gram or JSU) and offer them the same deal. Before anyone from Gram or JSU began yelling HELL NO, keep in mind that our administrators don't see things the way we see it. What doesn't look attractive about playing in the superdome against a D1 program that you actually have a chance at beating and also getting half the gate (assuming the terms are not changed)? They know how Gram or JSU packed the houses in Lake Charles and Hattisburg. If one of these match ups were to happen, the only thing left is to slap a title on it like "Big Easy Classic". Tulane's avg. home attedance is woeful so I am sure they would consider this. There is no doubt in my mind that they would also want Gram (another LA school).

As for as non conference scheduling, I too would like the FAMU series to return, preferbly home and home. I also don't have a problem with a home and home with a state school. McNeese or Northwestern St. are perfect because of the competition level the offer. Nicholis St. serves us no purpose. The remaining programs in the state (ULL, ULM, LA Tech) are not going to do a home and home with us. Southeastern LA's program is a long time away from being competitive @ D1AA.

I AGREE THAT WE SHOULD ONLY GIVE NICHOLLS A ONE YEAR CONTRACT AT HOME TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.
I ALSO THINK THAT WE SHOULD KEPT THE BIG EASY CLASSIC GOING TO WIN A GAME AGAINST A D1A OPPONENT CAN BE BEAT NOT TO MENTION THE $400,000.00 PAYDAY THERE IS NO D1AA GAME THAT COMES CLOSE TO THAT (EXCLUDING THE BC)
WHICH WE MADE LAST YEAR SPLITTING 50% OF THEIR HOME GAME GATE.
I ALSO THINK WE SHOULD KEEP THAT GAME AT THE DOME BECAUSE ONCE WE START A HOME AND HOME THAN WE LOSE ALL THE WAY AROUND

Okay honestly I am bitter sweet about the big easy classic. attening both of them, I found that this was a money maker for the city of New Orleans (especally the mall I work in which is right next door to the dome and hotels a little bit) and For Tulane ( wchich is the bad part I don't Know how much SU get off of this but I am sure it is not as much as Tulane).

Honestly, though skeptical about the outcome, many people still came and enjoyed an SU game. Well partly, Bringing that so called high school knock off of SU was sickening; bad field show and sound, if they wanted another band they should have gotten some one else. Like That Band from Tx that is like SU, who does their field shows good and sound good. I felt it was a big boost that a school like Tulane needed, cuz I think that one game matches the total attendance for an average year at a Tulane game.
